The line that's sung the most is highlighted, and before the ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਹਨਿ ਰਹਉ ਰੇ part of it, is he adding his own "Sakhi mai" or something like that? Is this wrong? Is there another shabad that includes that? Did Bhagat Kabir Ji's original poem include that?

I thought that this was not alllowed in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib ji.

As this contributes to 'kachi bani'

You can sing it and record it by all means according to maryada. But you can not perform it as kirtan in the Guru's darbar from what I know.

I have seen many raagis, the classic being the famous Ranjit dhadrianwale singing in bits like 'uch dar babe nanak da' live on kirtan stage.

He was questioned and accused of singing 'Kachi Bani' in such instances.- To which he cheekily replied that 'All bani is Pakhi, so how can it be kachi??'

My answer- 'when you tamper with it you dufus, you make it kachi'!!!!

He is well know authentic professional raagi who sings kirtan in puratan raagas/reetan- highly recommended by bhai balbir singh ji and sachkhand vasi bhai avtar singh ji, i m sure he knows the maryada of gurbani kirtan.

Isn't Gurbani maryada clear we shouldn't change it though? Or is this similar to how some say Waheguru in between a Shabad? Also, any one know what Sakhi Main means? Thanks!

absolutely wrong. he cannot add that word "sakhi main" like that.

although he might have tremendous classical music knowledge that doesn't mean that he can mould gurbani to fit in his compositions.

I agree. but doesn't this make it 'kachi' ? as I mentioned earlier.

I'm aware that you can't perform this in darbar or you are not supposed to.

BUT, maybe some one can clarify if they are supposed to record it as such- because this is what it seems like !

Seeing as there are no fast rules as far as I know, about how you make a recording !

I find that too many are doing this out there.

Just the other day at the gurdwara, I heard one-liners from different shabads being sang in with another shabad !!- It made me think, because I'm not too sure about this either, -perhaps some one can confirm.

na u have wrong definition of kachi pakki

kachi that connects u to kachey bandey

pakki thats connects u to pakka parmatama

so anyting sung toward waheguru is pakki bani. anything that makes us forget waheguru and think about other things is kachi bani for eg. songs etc.

there are 2 different styles of kirtan,

in old times sant mahapurashs used to do dharna style kirtan which actually could be considered as katha of gurbani in kirtan form.

When a kathavachak does katha of gurbani, he explains gurbani by adding his own words to simplify it more.

same is dharna kirtan simplifying gurbani for preaching purposes and at the same time make sangat sing the virtues of waheguru.

this kachi pakki bani is missionary agenda tomake people go against sant mahapurashs who did a lot of parchar back in the days.

but here case is little bit different, this kirtania is doing proper maryada kirtan but adding those two lines just for the composition. and those two words are random from the shabad. you could repeat the words if they are in the same pankti but u cannot pick random words from different pankti.

for eg.

JITHE JAYE BAHE MERA SATGURU SO THAN SUHAVA RAM RAAJEY

GURSIKHI SO THAAN BHALEYA LAI DHOOR MUKH LAWA .... DHOOR MUKH LAWA

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
