About this Mind...

ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਅਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੫॥
I▫o kahai Nānak man ṯūʼn joṯ sarūp hai apṇā mūl pacẖẖāṇ. ||5||

Thus says Nanak: O my mind, you are the very image of the Luminous Lord; recognize the true origin of your self. ||5||

❝About this mind... In truth there is nothing really wrong with it. It is intrinsically pure. Within itself it's already peaceful. That the mind is not peaceful these days is because it follows moods. The real mind doesn't have anything to it, it is simply (an aspect of) Nature. It becomes peaceful or agitated because moods deceive it. The untrained mind is stupid. Sense impressions come and trick it into happiness, suffering, gladness and sorrow, but the mind's true nature is none of those things. That gladness or sadness is not the mind, but only a mood coming to deceive us. The untrained mind gets lost and follows these things, it forgets itself. Then we think that it is we who are upset or at ease or whatever.

But really this mind of ours is already unmoving and peaceful... really peaceful! Just like a leaf which is still as long as no wind blows. If a wind comes up the leaf flutters. The fluttering is due to the wind — the "fluttering" is due to those sense impressions; the mind follows them. If it doesn't follow them, it doesn't "flutter." If we know fully the true nature of sense impressions we will be unmoved.

Our practice is simply to see the Original Mind. So we must train the mind to know those sense impressions, and not get lost in them. To make it peaceful. Just this is the aim of all this difficult practice we put ourselves through.❞

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਕੀਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
Nānak ḏunī▫ā cẖār ḏihāṛe sukẖ kīṯai ḏukẖ ho▫ī.
O Nanak, the world lasts for only a few days; indulging in pleasures, pain is produced.

ਗਲਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੈਨਿ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਛਡਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
Galā vāle hain gẖaṇere cẖẖad na sakai ko▫ī.
There are many who boast and brag, but none of them can remain detached from the world.

ਮਖੀ ਮਿਠੈ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
Makẖīʼn miṯẖai marṇā.
The fly dies for the sake of sweets.

ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਰਖਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਨ ਭਉ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੨॥
Jin ṯū rakẖėh ṯin neṛ na āvai ṯin bẖa▫o sāgar ṯarṇā. ||2||
O Lord, death does not even approach those whom You protect. You carry them across the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

This last video in the series really elegantly explains the importance and significance of mantra jaap. Must watch if your passionate about Waheguru jaap.Hopefully you will gain even more faith and love for it. Was really nice to hear Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji mentioned a few times with pangtis from gurbani.

If your interested in learning about states of Ishwar and Brahm and the journey to turiya avasta then watch the earlier parts. I was surprised to learn that "unmani" refers to the stage between waking and dreaming. There are references to unman in gurbani but I never quite understood what it meant beyond inward mind

Sometimes we have a lot of friends and people around, but no sangat. Reading posts like this is equivalent to getting sangat for me all without the drama of who is ck and who is not lol.

Point taken regarding ck.. However, i don't say this often but after this singh start documenting his experience in stages of shabad surat marg on meditation thread on SA and after taking to him and feeling his genuine desire to merge with vahiguroo ji. I felt he is definitely blessed soul from past life.
