is nanaksar a cult sect, what is it ?

I went a Sukhmani Sahib paart yesterday at what i have now been told is a Nanaka Gurdwara, (thats if we can call it Gurdwara)

On entry as i went to do Matha Tekh i saw a Lions Skin and head in front of Shri Guru Granth shaib, in all my years i nver sceen this, there was something cultish to me about this and the people there am i wrong ?

There was No Nishan Sahib there either.

They done Ardas kireten and Hukumnama

But there was something there which gave me an impression this is not othadox Sikhi.

omg yeah! I went to a nanaksar gurdwara there was no nishaan sahib and they also had tiger heads infront of maharaj ji! it smells like weird and like of toof.

Did you actually make an attempt to ask the sewadar or Granthi Singh about it?

This is a garden of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee Maharaj. There will be flowers of different colors, shapes, sizes and fragrances. They all add to the beauty of the entire garden. The maryada of Sri Akal Takht Sahib jee is the gardener and takes out the weeds and maintains the flowers and keeps their beauty intact.

I dont know much about Nanaksar, I know they have some Sant Baba type leader...and Puranmashi (full moon) ssems to be a big event at their Gurdwaras.

Of course it isn't a cult sect. It's just a different flavour of Sikhi although I don't know their current mission status or who the top guy is at the moment. Some of the most respected and no-nonsense mahapurash in the Sikh faith have originated from Nanaksar. I'm not sure why there isn't a Nishan Sahib or why the love for lion skins.

Nanaksar is upsamparda(sub branch) of nirmale samparda just like rara sahib, harkhowal, hoti mardan, naurangabad, reru sahib, bhucho kalan etc

They don't fly Nishaan Sahib because they don't have a langar.

Nishaan Sahib is flown so that all people, from far away, can see that they can get a free meal at this gurdwara.

Nanaksari Sangat bring food from home and they eat it together. It's more like a potluck.

Nanaksar movement was started by Baba Nand Singh Ji. He had utmost faith in Guru Ji. He preached that Guru Granth Sahib is the living embodiment of Guru Nanak and should be treated as such.

When Baba Ji did meditation, he used to go into the deepest jungles so sangat wouldn't disrupt him. Tigers would guard him.

They aren't gurdwaras - they are called Taaths and are apolitical. Up until recently, money ("maya") was not allowed and if you wanted to donate, it would be food for the langar. The focus was always on bhagti rather than shakti.

It is not a cult. I first thought that, as i had not experienced different gurdwaras and sampardas of Sikhi. But this is the only place where i first felt peace of the mind. Read up on Baba Nand Singh ji Kaleranwale, they were a brahmgiani. I used to have dreams of a place like this and never had been to any place like it or gurdwara. I remember sayin to my grand mother years ago a gurdwara i dreamt about with the high platform for Maharaj ji. But didn't really take much note and passed it off as dream. Then years later on visiting Nanaksar, as i was sitting in darbar sahib the weirdest feeling came over me, kind of freaked me out. I felt i had been there before. When i got home i told my husband and family and cousin who took me there, it came in my dream, that style platform, and i had been there but hadn't. I wasn't makin any sense, they said you couldn't have. But i felt i had.

I like the satkaar for Maharaj ji they have. And love the kirtan. Dont know much about the history yet, but its Babajis stories that attracted me, and an elderly bibi told me how she had darshan of them when she was younger. Wish there were brahmgianis like them nowadays. They concentrated on bhagti. I think the kaleran one sangat dont donate money but instead mishri or prashaad. N30S1NGH paji maybe you can enlighten on this.

Once Baba Nand Singh Ji visited a Gurudwara in a village. Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s parkash was done in the open and the “palkan” were covered with sand and Guru Sahib’s (angs) were also covered with sand. Baba Ji was greatly upset at this. He at once called Granthi Singh and scolded him and said, “If I put sand in your eyes, then how would you feel?” Then Baba Ji himself took a clean rumala and removed all the sand from the pages (angs) himself. Baba Ji always said, “These are not the letters but eyes of Guru Nanak.” And the palkan are the eye lids of Guru Nanak’s eyes. Where ever Baba Ji went, the first thing he did was to see how Guru Granth Sahib was being maintained. Once a sardar ji visited Bhai Sahib Bhai Dr. Veer Singh Ji and asked him, “How to do the seva of SAHIB SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI?” Bhai Sahib Bhai Veer Singh Ji told him to go to NANAKSAR and see it yourself.
