prayer for the deceased

hi

does anyone know which is the most suitable prayer to do for someone who has passed away? for how long is it that any akand paths and prayers can reach the soul until thats it? 5days?

im aware that bani talks about anti attachment, so i dont need those kinds of lectures back, just answer to the question

Guru Nanak dev ji came across people in a river, splashing water towards their dead ancestors, that were supposedly living on the Sun.

Guru ji started to splash water in the opposite direction.

The confused people asked him what he was doing.

He replied, "I am watering my fields"

The people asked, "How can you water your fields from so far away."

Guru ji replied "If you can send water to your ancestors on the Sun, then why can't I send water to my fields?"

To honor the deceased person's memory and allow the family to have closure.

The deceased aren't waiting for your prayers on the other side.

Guru sahib jee knows everything, waheguru jee knows your inner-self and as long as you have clean and pure(sharda) thought, waheguru sahib jee listen to them. Soul comes and go and we should really throw trust at waheguru sahib jee that he will care of our beloved ones.

You can start sehaj paat of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the memory of your loved one. It will bring benefit to you and others.

It all depends on sharda. All is happening under guru sahib jees human.

so then why do you do an akand path during a funeral service and ardas?

According to sikh rehat, a reading of the Guru Granth Sahib ji should be commenced within 10 days after the funeral.

All the paths should be done within this time and after 10 days there should be no more paaths for the funeral.

Kirtan may also be performed every night within those 10 days if the family desires.

A paath is required after all funerals for sikhs.

And within this 10 days is also a requirement!

if you have trust in Maharaj and you believe that a prayer can help the deceased person then go for it and dnt wait.

Suitables baanies for any kind of prayer (ardas) but not limited to these baanies are Mool Mantar, Jap Ji Sahib, Chaupayi Sahib, Sukhmani Sahib and Waheguru Naam Simran with proper ardas and your personal ardas in the ardas. Millions of ardas roopi shabads in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which makes your shardha strong and ur belief firm and helps you and OTHERS (whom you do ardas for) with any kind of prayer you have in your mind.

It does not matter in how many days also i ddnt get ur question about how many days.
