Thats exactly it..thats the reason i have been harping for ages for sri akaal takth sahib to own a media mogul..media is most powerful tool...we need to get on with the game others are playing in media to introduce agenda ...we need to use same tactics- subtle cunning tactics/systematic way to change public opinion all for right reasons, wider humanity/sikh interest - righteous dharma cause...!!!

With all due respect to Sri Akal Takhat I don't think they have the vision for such an undertaking. I do know what you mean though, i.e. in a perfect world. You do raise a pertinent point about why those at the top of the Sikh faith are not being proactive in getting the message out to the masses. Funds aren't a problem, we know that for a fact.

Since the tv show has not yet been broadcast, ofcom can not not and will not do anything about it. So until the shows broadcast, theres nothing much we can do since, as you said, the hindutva media will ignore our complaints...

But have we written to Hindutva media by e-mail/registered posts and have a proof that they have ignored us? Will Sikh Federation,UK or any such Sikh organisation take a lead or the issue is not an important one for any leading Sikh organisation ... I've emailed a complaint to colors tv, no response. I emailed viacom18 asking them to tell me the procedure of complaint, no response. This was around 2weeks ago.

Sikh coilition USA have also not responded. Neither has United Sikhs UK.

So i guess im twiddling my thumbs until the programs broadcast and then see how far my complaints taken with ofcom

Sikh students object new Rishtey serial ‘Gurbani’

A Sikh body, All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) has approached Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh against upcoming serial ‘Gurbani’.

S. Satnam Singh Gambhir, President of AISSF Jharkhand (Bihar) Unit, has written a letter to Giani Gurbachan Singh drawing his attention to the upcoming serial – ‘Gurbani’, that is scheduled to begin from 18th March on Colors and ON Rishtey in the UK.

The body object the title name ‘Gurbani’ which it denotes the sacred Sikh scripture. Gurbani means “the Words of the Guru” and Sikhs have utmost respect for the “Gurbani”.

The letter addressed to Giani Gurbachan Singh states: “upcoming serial ‘Gurbani’ is produced by Damini K. Shetti and this serial is said to be based on the plight of thousands deserted brides of Punjab who were married to Non Resident Indians (NRIs)”.

“Whether only, Sikhs are NRIs? If no, then why this serial is made only on Sikhs and why it is titled as Gurbani?” Gambhir asked.

“It is a conspiracy to distort the image of the Sikhs” he has stated in his letter, while adding that “a game was being played with the Sikh sentiments”.

Satnam Singh Gambhir has requested Giani Gurbachan Singh to pressurise producer of the serial, as well as the censor board, to change the title of the serial.

Jalandhar, Punjab (March 17, 2013): It is learnt that the Jalnadhar police registered an FIR against Hindu TV Channel named Colors TV for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikhs on the basis of a complaint by some Sikh activists, who have objected to the proposed telecast of an upcoming Hindi serial named Gurbani.

Gurbani – A new serial scheduled to begin on Colors TV from March 18, 2013

It is notable that the Colors TV is coming up with a controversial serial the title and central character of which is Gurbani.

Sikh Groups had been objecting to it and there had been protests against naming the serial as Gurbani.

Gurbani is a sacred word for Sikhs as it means the verses contained in the holy Guru Granth Sahib.

“Sikhs have resented the use of Gurbani for a commercial TV serial” YesPunjab.Com has reported.

“Jagjit Singh Gaba, president of Gurdwara Nauvin Patshahi, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, on Saturday filed the complaint”, the report reads furhter.

“Senior police officials contacted the channel to sort out the issue before registering a case but the channel did not respond in a positive manner” YesPunjab.Com has reported.

SP HQ Navjot Singh Mahal said that left with no option, Police registered a case under section 295-A for hurting religious sentiments.

All the complaining, registering cases, etc. I guess at this points works because sikhs are kept in a stable, like horses in a minority category. Registering cases against police officers for example doesn't work because it affects the mainstream.

If the khalsa wants to continue to get slim pickings it can, but the real way to deal a un-recoverable blow to these corrupts pigs is by putting a lien on them.

I'm not good at expressing things in written, and it may seem off-topic but I try to explain a strategy, and the method for it all in one post.

Colors responds to ‘Gurbani’ title change

Colors has said it has taken note of the recent news reports and the concerns voiced by various Sikh organizations such as Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar, Jathedar Akal Takhat Sahib over the title of its upcoming fiction show Gurbani slated to go on air tonight.

Responding to the recent coverage, Colors said, “It has tremendous respect for all communities including the Sikh community and we would never do anything to hurt or disrespect the sentiments or religious feelings of any community. In fact the producer of the show is a Sikh herself and even has a niece named Gurbani. Being from the Sikh community she has tremendous respect for her own religion. Gurbani, the name of the lead protagonist symbolizes everything that is pure, cultural and spiritual about Punjab. Our protagonist is a girl who lives for everyone but herself. She is pure, kind hearted and God fearing. She is, in fact, the kind of girl who will be an inspiration to all. It is through her that we showcase purity, sacrifice and love, love for family and mankind.

The primary reason for naming her ‘Gurbani’ is because she is the kind of person who will make every Punjabi proud. Whatever life’s throws at her, she tackles that with humility, positivity and dignity. As the story progresses she takes on every situation that comes in her life and the lives of people around her and brings happiness to everyone in her life.

This is a show about real people with real values and emotions. Every character is inspiring and positive, including the mother with the NRI dream, her stance is also justified. We only highlight that her way to achieve her dream for her daughter may not be right. Overall this show is about Punjab that depicts the state as a place where everyone would want to stay, depicts the kind of people that everyone would inspire to be and depicts a community that exemplifies, love, humanity and values.

Over the last month, our team has travelled extensively for promotional activities in Amritsar and Delhi with the cast and crew of Gurbani. No one has raised any objections to the show name. Infact we held press conferences in both the cities and the media including the Punjabi press reacted very positively to the show, which can be seen in the positive coverage the show has received.

The show promotions also have been on air for almost a month and till a few days back nobody raised any objections. With utmost respect and humility we request the complainants to view Gurbani as merely a name and in context of a fiction show that endeavors to bring a social issue to the fore. However to respect the sentiments of the people, we have decided to change the name of the show.”
