Monday, March, 25 2013 - AMRITSAR: In a major decision today the Sikh Clergy that met at Sikhs’ highest temporal seat, Akal Takht here today ordered to summon Santokh Singh Badesha, the main trustee of US based Gurdwara at Rochester for 'explanation’ over 'Kirpan issue’.

The Sikh high priests said that Badesh will have to present himself before the clergy in the next meeting, later next month and explain his position over banning Kirpan in US Gurdwara, failing which necessary action will be taken.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said they have received numerous complaints from US relating the controversy and they were pained to know that the Kirpan, the basic symbol of the Sikhism has been banned in the Gurdwara complex by the Gurdwara management. "He must come and explain his position or face action’’, said Jathedar.

Asked that the decision followed the Court’s verdict, he said the Gurdwara management may not have represented the case properly as Kirpan is the basic tenet of the Sikhism and any baptized Sikh wearing it can not be banned from entering Gurdwara. “In a Gurdwara no restriction of any kind on any of the Kakars (Kirpan, Kanga, Kesh, Kachh or Karra) gifted by Guru Sahib, can be imposed by anyone’’, said Jathedar.

It had been reported that the trustees of Gurdwara had themselves asked the US Court to bar Kirpans at the gurdwara premises and then went back a second time to ask it to only restrict certain sizes of Kirpan, which Clergy said was uncalled for.In another important decision, the Akal takht once again reiterated to control the volumes of Loud Speakers at the Gurdwaras in wake of the ongoing Examination times of the students.

"Earlier also directions had been issued and we want that the same are implemented in totality. The students and patients should not suffer from the high volumes of the Speakers installed at Gurdwaras. The Akal Takht also declared its own website to apprise the people around the world about the Sikhs’ religious programs and other activities from the Takht.The formal opening will be made by SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar on April 1, said Jathedar Gurbachan Singh.

Observing Guru Har Rai’s birth anniversary as Sikh environment day, directions to Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to ensure Maryada (Sikh code of conduct) in Pakistan based gurdwaras were some of the other important decisions taken today.

Nothing surprises me when it comes to the us, been on other sikh sites (spn) and the amount of so called us sikhs and there strange views about sikhi, one example is that naam simran or parroting (there words not mine) is of no use !!, They talk alot but thats all i'm afraid.
