no.... you have to get it transfered to your new passport and no wonder there's a fee for that

after the expiry of the old passport?

Yes. On payment of requisite fee, a new OCI ‘U’ visa sticker will be

issued. However, the applicant can continue to carry the old passport

wherein the OCI ‘U’ visa sticker was pasted along with new passport for

visiting India without seeking a new visa, as the visa is lifelong.

My kids both got PIO cards because they never had an Indian passport. It runs for 15 years and if their British passport runs out then they pay a fee about £19 to get the new passport no. put on the PIO card. I assume its similar for the OCI card which is for those who had Indian passports before but now have British passports or other non-Indian passports.

Im British born and Obvisouly Brit passport on their web it says about indian passport, but ive never had one ??? confused

I have just got my new British Passport (as old one, booklet got filled), and my OCI is on my old Passport. I carry my old British Passport, my new Passport and my OCI booklet with me on my travel to India. So, you DON'T need to get the OCI/PIO on your new British Passport, 200% SURE ...

Other than not having to re-new Visa, what are the other benefits of having a life time visa. Ive heard one is you pay Indian National prices for internal flights rather than NRi so savings there, any others ???

Not too sure off other benefits but i have heard if you hava an OCI and somehow fall into trouble with the Indian police or authorities, the British embassy will not help you in anyway.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this

Not true, first and foremost you are a british citizen and not an indian citizen , oci, does not make you and indian citizen.

I have already checked this out before getting an oci, i would never become an indian citizen and if this meant i was they can have it back. see link below
