In my opinion, this is an exercise by Akal takhat to diffuse sitUATION and say no to Badals indirectly.

Akal takhat has also warned without naming those forces like BJP not to issue statements and they

have no business to interfere in sikhs internal affairs.

Memorial is here to stay forever and no one will dare to play with it.

The chances of the matter being resolved before Operation Bluestar anniversary on June 6 appear slim. On the demand by some political parties that plaques with Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s name be removed, he said: “It is our internal matter and we will decide on it.

Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh and Golden Temple’s Head Granthi Giani Mal Singh, expressing their personal views, said they were in favour of retaining plaques with Bhindranwale’s name.

Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh refused to comment on the matter. He, however, said the young generation of Sikhs was in favour of retaining Bhindranwale's name.

Without resolving it, Bhindranwale memorial controversy set at rest

Thursday, May, 16 2013 - 17:23

By Jagtar Singh-
CHANDIGARH: Even without resolving it, the Sikh clergy has for the time being set at rest the controversy on naming the Operation Bluestar memorial in the Golden Temple complex after Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. As the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had come under pressure on the naming of the memorial by Taksal Chief Harnam Singh Dhumma after his predecessor, the matter was referred to Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh.

The objections had been raised by the Shiromani Akali Dal and its alliance partner the Bharatiya Janata Party. It may be mentioned that at the time decision was taken to raise this memorial, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had given an assurance in the Assembly to mollify its alliance partner that it would not be named after any individual.

The perceptions of the two parties on this issue are diametrically opposite. For the BJP, Sant Bhindranwale was the fountain head of the militancy that rocked Punjab for more than a decade and took the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and chief minister Beant Singh. However, it was Badal who, in his statement issued immediately after Operation Bluestar, had accorded the status of martyr on all those who had been killed by the army in the Golden Temple complex.

Again, it was Akali Dal which had resolved to raise this memorial at its meeting in October, 1984.At the time the Kar Sewa was handed over to the Damdami Taksal, the SGPC executive committee decided to name it after Sant Bhindranwale. In this contest, Taksal has done no wrong in implementing the resolution of the SGPC. The Dal Khalsa in its memorandum submitted to Akal Takht before the start of the meeting had only referred to these details.

Even two of the high priests including Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh and Giani Mal Singh see no wrong in naming the memorial after Sant Bhindranwale. The high priests have silenced the BJP and the Congress by asking the political parties to refrain to commenting on this issue. This has in a way come as a big relief to Badal. The clergy would now consult all the Sikh organisations before taking any final decision. The sentiments of the majority of Sikh organisations on this issue are too well known.

Moreover, Sant Bhindranwale was accorded the status of martyr by Akal Takht and his photograph has been put up by the SGPC in the Sikh museum in the Golden Temple complex. The naming of the memorial after his as such was just a formality. As the process lingers on, it might cease to be an issue.

why is this still an issue, any sikh knows the memorial is very bland as it is and over the next few years needs to be made more graphic with photographs and turn into a historic museum to the event. let whoever wants to interfere come with the entire indian army, they will be reminded of what happened at bluestar first hand by singhs

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
