1984, a Sikh story (BBC documentary)

Today we were watching this documentary in the class and I really liked it..so I thought I should share.. It is well-made and it features a Sikh girl from England going to India to research about 1984 incidents and how it changes her life and her view of her religion.

On a side note : Who do you vote in Punjab? What is the popularity of current ruling party of Punjab? I know its some Sikh party called something akal etc. What is your opinion of their performance in Punjab?

They're up India's arse. They wouldn't make them look bad. If you do some unbiased research (with non-Sikh authors too) you will find out that India lied about facts.

Anyway, we don't vote for anyone. The Akaali Dal claims it is a Sikh party, but in all honesty its just there to make money.

Why not vote for anyone? Thats bad...Anyways, Akali Dal performed well in punjab as far as I know. They atleast did better than our government....lol

Akali Dal (Badal) right now is the best bet Punjab has even though that is ridiculous and repulsive to me to even type out. If it isn't Akali Dal (B), then it would be the congress.

I saw this documentary a few times, the first time being the time of its release. It has a very strong pro indian government bias from Sonia Deol. I don't consider her to be a Sikh. A lot of reporting post 1984 from western sources is a lot more accurate in the depiction of events that occurred.

Best way to understand what happened is to look at it from Cythia Mahmood's book or a SIkh perspective and then also look at the government's perspective and decide for yourself.

It seems like she didn't do the research for the facts thoroughly or just wasn't intersted to find out more about Sant Ji. She has been heavily criticized for presenting Sant ji as terrorist and the cause of 1984 happenings.

This documentary was not the Sikh story. She did not do her research properly about the whole background of the situation. I have seen many documentaries about Jewish persecution in Europe or even documentaries hi lighting the struggle of the Palestinians. Deol being a Sikh girl could have done such a good job showing the Sikh story, but due to lack of research it wasn't meant to be.

Even if we somebody agrees there were terrorists inside (WHICH IS A LIE), I have a question from another angle -

If some terrorists (let's say 150-200 in number) of which ever religion would sieze a Hindu temple such as Jagannath Puri, Vaishno Devi, Birla Mandir etc., will Indian Govt. send an army and blow up the Hindu temple, and kill all pilgrimages inside the Hindu temple?
