Fellow brethren,

A friend who was bought up sikh by his parents has recently confessed his desire to become muslim. He's gone as far as fasting, studying arabic, conforming to prayers, and stunningly bringing up both his offspring against sikhi and instead, full of islamic values.

I don't agree with his omission but can't seem to blame him, our fathers, forefathers never adopted the sikh gown or adhered it to their children so how was he gonna be any different? I rather accept how he said 'I was told to go to the gurdwara, bow, have prasaad and then go; I was never told what was being said nor could I understand it' at times he said 'blokes can talk in the prayer room as they please, often smelling of booze and cigarettes'-is this God's he said to me?

His quest with Islam is begining fruition, what I wanted to ask the sangat was that can I do anything, persuade, inform, educate or at least show this person the biggest regret he could be making....what would you do?

This is a tough situation. It seems like he has already made up his mind to embrace Islam.

Have you tried talking to him? Is he open to a dialogue? I would say ask him to learn more about Sikhi which his parents failed him to teach. I don't think it is his fault. His parents did not make any effort to teach him sikhi values..

I thought I knew so much about Sikhi but after watching these videos I think there is so much more to discover about Sikhi...

Maybe, after watching some videos he can change his mind

Also, he is in serious need of sangat. Check if there are any smagams or keertan nearby.. Invite him to these programs or introduce him to other Sikh ( Amritdhari) friends..

If he could go as far a studying islam , then why did he not study sikhi and learn about it before making such a decision, what kind of friends did/does he have, i mean was around he muslims alot, probably brainwashed, seems a bit drastic to say he knew nothing about why he bowed before SGGS ji, then he goes and learns about islam but not sikhi, to blame other people for ones own weaknesses is wrong, those people who talk in sangat and the ones who smell of booze/ cigs should be ignored and not deter one from following sikhi or any other religion. Muslims smoke, take drugs etc and still go to the mosque, to eradicate the smell of cigs 100% from the body even after bathing is impossible it come through the skins pores eventually.

Maybe this is the path waheguru has set for him all i can say is had he learnt about sikhi he would never have made this decision, its he's loss he may get janat but sachkand can only be attained via SGGS JI in this day and age ( this is my view and understanding others may disagree, they can please their selves,but i dont mean to offend).

If someone cant be loyal to his own faith, what loyality will he give another? Let him follow the path he has chosen. Obviously he has made his mind up if hes gone to the extent of submiting to namaz and bringing up his children in Islam.

It is his bad karams that he has decided to give up a diamond for a rock. Only those with very good karams from past lives are blessed with Sikhi, and if he out of ignorance does not realize what a mistake he has made then you as a friend should try to talk to him. The biggest negative point about Islam in my opinion is Prophet Mohammad himself. The kinds of things he has done during his lifetime, if someone in modern times did just one of those things he would be jailed. So talk to him about Prophet Mohammad. First educate yourself about him and the things he has done such as marrying a child of 9 years of age, beheading unarmed 700 Jewish men of Banu Quraiza who had surrendered to him, allowing the Sahaba to torture and rape captives. This just tip of the iceberg. All this info is abundantly available in the Hadiths.

Well Its sad to see this potential sikh go but by look of it he wasn't really into sikhi to begin with that, I wish him well, hope he does not turn into katarvad shariatvad muslim (or shariatvadi katarvadi of any religion for that matter). Hope he finds sangat of arif/bhramgyani sufi fakirs so that they show him real path of sufism-mystic layers of islam for his spiritual development:

1. Valley of Search(Wadde-a-Tallash)- Where one searches for murshid.

2. Valley of Love (Wadee-a-Ishaq) - Where one finds murshid and start doing seva of murshid with pyaar

3. Valley of Knowledge (Wadeea-Marfat) - One feels existence of allah, but one didn't fully realize it

4. Valley of meditation or Ibadat (Wadee-a-Mehveat) - Where one gets zikr meditation there surti start hearing zikar dhuni full force.

5. Valley of Unity (Wadee-Wehdeeat) - Where one started slowly realizing Allah and me are ONE.

6. Valley of Bliss (Wadee-a-Noor or Wadee-a-Hairam)- Where one gets noor hi noor anand

7. Valley of merger in God or Allah (Wadee-A-Finah-Fillah) - Where one gets merge with Allah by kirpa of murshid. Ekta with Allah.

Look at the end of the day, we should realize how lucky we are to be Sikh !!

I'm not trying to sound extreme or Taliban in any way, but what I mean is that we should realize how lucky we are to have the SHABAD GURU. That is the living and active SGGSji that gives us everything a guru gives. The gyan, wisdom and knowledge that you can attain is incredible.

The way I see it is that I don't know how many different places and families I was born at before this birth.

I don't know what kind of different religions I took birth in.

I don't know if I were a pope, rabbi, sinner, crook or rapist !

But what I DO know is that I didn't make it.

I was not good enough to be merged with Akaal Purakh for eternity, maybe I was a muslim just chasing the rainbow for the 72 virgins in heavenly paradise!!

Whatever, wherever and whoever I was, I didn't get the opportunity or I didn't take advantage of the opportunity I have today.

Sometimes, especially after contemplating a shabad and studying it all day, I realise and go to bed with a huge smile thinking ""How lucky I am that I can access this very much alive Shabad Guruji''' !

I think that when one can understand the depth and beauty of the treasure of Shabad Guru, our 10 Gurus and bhagats, their lives and roles in creating this sikhi, then one can never drift away onto an unknown path.

I know that in the day and age we live in today, it hurts us when someone goes from Sikh to islam and this is only natural.

But remember, being a Sikh is NOT just a religion, it is a way of life.

The contributors to our religion like Bhagat Kabir ji never walked out of their religions BUT they simply corrected the misconceptions and blind followings that were occurring and applied what we call GURMAT.

To me, this tells me that anyone, be they muslim, hindu or Christian, can become a Sikh and be a better person on the sikhi path.

Let's be honest here and not beat about the bush. The person you wrote of clearly has mental heath issues, who but a madman would want to leave Sikhi for the so-called 'religion of peace'. I suggest just as he seems to be against the way his parents raised him then his immediate relatives such as his parents or uncles need to make sure that he doesn't commit child abuse by raising his kids as Muslims. He is an adult and has a choice but his kids maybe being forced to become Muslims.

I think we need a lot more honestly in relation to these sorts of incidents. Only a few decades ago one would not have found one Sikh becoming a Muslim but now we appear to have some fool brainwashed by Muslims every few months. The thing we need to consider is not that we have lost a Sikh, we should consider that a fool has left Sikhi and increased by one the number of brainwashed Muslims there are in the world. Our aim should be to bring others into Sikhi and we should not be expending our energies on idiots like that guy who will take his mental heath issues into their religion and out of ours. He's just another <banned word filter activated> who's likely to end up blowing some fellow Muslims up in an attempt to get to the Islamic whorehouse in the sky. Just as he leaves no doubt a non-Sikh whether in US, Canada, UK or even in Bihar or Madhya Pradesh will become a Sikh. That Sikh will be a thousand times more worthy of the support of his fellow Sikhs than the fool who left Sikhi. He will bring with him the spirit that the Sikhs of old had and not the fool who wants to become a Muslim just because he's seen a sharabi or smoker in the langar hall.

I remember some years ago there was a <banned word filter activated> born in a Sikh household who also was brainwashed into Islam. He ended up in jail as he stabbed some Muslims in a Mosque after an argument. The only unfortunate thing was that he stabbed some normal Muslims rather than the ones who brainwashed him.

Let the dude leave Sikhi bro if he wants to. After all if he tries to leave Islam the punishment for doing that is death (for apostacy).

But provide this man the info he needs to make an informed judgement and make sure like Proactive Veerji said that he doesn't commit child abuse by forcing his children to convert and forcing them to be circumcised against their will because slaveowners like Abraham and Muhammad believed in the pagan belief that circumcised penises enhance sexual pleasure (as God apparently wants all men to be circumcised, otherwise we all will end up in Hell if we don't follow these words claimed to be from God).

Sikhi believes in the equality of all.

Islam, The Quran and Prophet Muhammad repeatedly state that slaves are inferior to their lighter-skinned Arab masters.

Sikhi believes that only our actions count for what our lives amount to.

Islam believes that so long as you believe in Prophet Muhammad + all his actions it's a free ticket to paradise and the reward of 72 light-skinned, big bosomed virgin sex slaves (as well as youths of perpetual freshness as a bonus).

Prophet Muhammad at the age of 54 was busy with consummating his marriage to a 9year old child Aisha and selling human beings for financial profit as well as receiving messages from Allah that Muslims are allowed to rape their slavegirls as stated in the Quran.

If he still feels Islam is for him then let him believe in Prophet Muhammad. Focus on protecting his kids from being dragged into the cult too and suffering inhumane torture and mutilation by having circumcision forced upon them.
