Transliteration Translation Of Suraj Prakash Granth

Is it possible we could work on developing transliteration translations of this granth, it's available in Punjabi gurmukhi, script and in Hindi- some google translators translate hindi to english poorly. Is possible to create the transliteration option like www.srigranth.org has using a created character map assigning punjabi letters to particular romanised equivalents for easy reading for younger generations. It's easier to do then hiring a team of punjabi translators on a basic £1 or $1 rate in punjab doing their own translations.

its a necessity to translate it into english, but i persoanlly cant see what a transliteration would achieve. STTM transliterations are weak (IMO) and serve little purpose.

It depends on who uses them. Translations costs more and take up more time. Transliterations are much easier to do, you don't need to be an expert in sikhi. It's easier to read romanised script then gurmukhi for many people we aren't all experts singh. Besides that a transliteration project would be part of the first step to getting the whole thing done.

I heard suraj prakash has been translated and is available in some bookshops but they are old typewriter like prints which need to be ocr'd or retyped and redone.

Maybe someone knows a trick in word were they can just change the font over, so take the pdfs into word and change the texts into transliterations.

Bro, from my experience in teaching Paath to kids using romanised script it was too hard. they were young and couldnt read Gurmukhi, and they actually ended up learning the paath from memory. The romanised script was just too awkward to use, and i was correcting them on every 2nd word.

n30 that's a translation plus it doesn't have a search engine added to it and a chapter ebook like feel to it. Besides they have only done 4 chapters, it's going to take too long. A programming approach could take maximum 1 month to finish off the entire granth in a transliteration method of mapping the characters on using srigranth and sikhitothemax punjabi scripts. But it requires a suitable programmer.

The vast majority of Sikhs I know in the UK learnt their paath in roman english and roman english did alot for them getting into sikhi. If only there was some kind of wiki or open source monitor to do translate the entire mahan kosh to english it's an easier project which should be finished off. that i dont know, as having never asked, but paath can only be learned correctly in gurmukhi, or by oral repetition. I have heard a lot of young sikhs read bani incorrectly. No-one can learn paath correctly by roman english.

Na wouldn't call it my project, it's the panths one I was talking about the idea, I haven't started it or patented it but would like to hear about others going with it.

Anyone know how to take those pdfs and feed it into mysql and hook it up with php? How about a translation piece of code? Should it parse it on the go, by reading all of the text into arrays and using a lookup dictionary to equate it. Maybe that should be done first to produce a pdf and both pdf's should be put into a php mysql page?

How about putting it all into word and using a font specifically created which will map it once the font is changed? Is there an easier way of changing the unicode value of each character set? using a script like this perhaps? http://mylanguages.org/converter.php

Waheguru ji I am learning Gurmukhi now but only knew english b4 and transliterations really helped with my Nitnem and learning bania so I think they are really useful to many Singhs around the world
