Hair Loss

I am a pagh wearer. I have been suffering from hair loss for a few years now, it's got to the point where there's not much left on the top but plenty on the back and side. This is male pattern baldness, not traction alopecia from having a tight joora.

Quite frankly it looks ridiculous. It gets me down looking like this.

I'm fortunate that I wear a pagh outside and a patka/keski at home so no one really sees it.

However I am looking to get married soon.

My future wife would eventually see me without a pagh and it doesn't look good.

Should I be honest from the start and tell her that I'm balding?

Most people shave their heads when they start going bald but I don't have that option. The fact the back and sides are a lot thicker makes the whole look even worse.

Some advice would be appreciated.

Argan oil is something I've noticed a lot of people using lately but that could just be to thicken the hair you have

I've heard water from onions (not sure if that's fresh or not) prevents further hair loss. Althoug I'm sure there are many on this forum with deeper knowledge about this :)

The only thing that is meant to work to stop hair loss is a drug called propecia but that only helps you keep what you currently have, not grow anymore hair.

How much of a turnoff will this be to my future wife?

Are there any other singhs out there that are bald?

Should I just cut off the remaining hair and shave my head?

This is really getting me down.

If you're wearing a dastaar there's nothing to worry about. Regarding the wife issue, if you're sensitive about it, don't appear in-front of her without a keski or something similar; she doesn't need to see your bald head. When you've been married for a few years then you can reveal you're bald, and by that time you'll probably have a few kids, and she won't care either way!

Well thanks for the advice paaji.

I think ur right. I mean I'm lucky I wear a pagh and am able to cover my baldness.

That's optimistic thinking about hiding the baldness from the wife for so long, I'd give it two days not two years!

I guess I will get the girl to like me first and then tell her after a few months or so. I wouldn't get married before telling her.

I'm tall and good looking so I don't have too much of a problem attracting girls, but the thought of what's under my pagh sometimes eats away at my confidence.

Have you consulted your doc? There are many ayurvedic treatments you can do. Contact an ayurvedic doc who can help.

It depends on your wife. Be honest to her. Dont hide it from her. A good wife will love you for your personality not your looks.

I have seen my dad getting bald after so many years of wearing turban. But he is old. Try massaging your hair with sarson da tel or almond oil like twice a week even on the bald spots. let your hair lose when you get home and cover it with bandana or something.

Should I just cut off the remaining hair and shave my head?

As Sikh, it is a kurehit. I would advise NO... Who wants to marry a "takla"? your wife would definitely be turned down and that in case if you ever find one. You will get no rishatas, man... LOL ( Jus Kidding)

This is really getting me down.

Seriously, try natural remedies and consult an ayurvedic doc... Be optimistic... Pray to Guruji...

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Cutting your hair will not help. It will not grow back or grow thicker. Try and understand what Waheguru is telling you.

Let go of ego, and attachment. You will not take your hair or your body with you when you meet Waheguru but you will take your thoughts and (life's) actions.

I would recommend you try Simran and regular nitnem path to help you gain acceptance and understanding.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
