Struggling For Veggie Food Whilst Working And Being Skinny

I am posting this topic to get advice and to see if their are sangat out there in the same boat as me and what they do as a result:

I am a vegetarian, and very skinny for my age. This is always the topic of issue with my family and friends who always talk about me being skinny and keep saying "don't you eat any food" and similar comments. Nearly all the people who make these comments to me, do themselves eat full on meat.

The added disadvantage for me is that in the job which I do, it is very hard to find veggie food from shops. When I do find some veggie food, it is English veggie food which is not filling whatsoever. I can't take food from home and have to eat out due to work. I sometimes do 10 or 11 hour shifts with little or no food due to being vegetarian. Everyone around me eats meat. There are sometimes instances where colleagues buy food from one place but I have to to look for other places to buy food thus wasting their time too. It would be easier if I could buy the same food at the same place.

I wanted to know if in this instance and due to the difficulties surrounding not getting veggie food if it would be ok to start eating meat and if this is a genuine reason to eat meat?? I am not saying I am going to be eating meat all the time because I am greedy or just purely love the taste of it. It's because of the difficulties of not finding filling veggie food and to bulk up to.

What's wrong with being skinny? If you want to put on weight, just eat loads of crisps/cakes/biscuits/fizzy drinks. All those calories will make you obese!

How fat/skinny you are has little to do with eating meat. One of my best friends is as skinny as a rake but will eat twice what the normal person eats and yes they eat meat.

It may be down to you having a fast metabolism so you need to eat more frequently to keep up with it. Any food can be filling if you eat enough. Look for food high in protein which will fill you up. Yes meat is protein but there's no reason why you need to resort to it. Fibre will also help you feel full - try eating porridge for breakfast.

I've been vegetarian all my life and have never found it impossible to find food to eat. My brother-in-law is a bodybuilder but is completely vegetarian. You do not need meat to build muscle.

Not sure why you can't bring food in from home. Make a packed lunch the night before, stick it in the fridge and bring into work. Tends to be cheaper and more healthy.

Seems you looking for an excuse to eat meat, you say you can not take food from home why not i do, and i do 10 - 15 hour days,

Salad sandwiches, crisps, fruit, choc bar, pot noodle etc etc, it is not ok too eat me if you are amritdhari but if you are not then its up to you .

Not looking for excuses. Packed lunches are only a temporary thing. When doing a 10-12 hour shift a packed lunch is not enough. If a pa led lunch is eaten 2-3 hours into the shift then what do you do.

I have a very fast metabolism meaning I get hungry very 2-3 hours. My work is always on the go and I am not in one place which is the added difficultly with finding decent filling veggie food.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
