vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

sikhs have always celebrated the killing of a tryant, Bhai Sukha Singh and Bhai Mehtab Singh played football with the head of massa.

the sikhs will always remember the shaheeds but that doesnot mean we forget the glorious actions of our Khalsa.

every year for the past 29 years my cousins gurdwara sahib has a bonfire and they burn a effigy of kutti indra and pay home to Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Beant Singh and the countless shaheeds of nov 1984.

each to there own.

sad when people seem to think we got no feeling and kushi in us. yea ppl might say 29 years later but you have to be there to feel the pain of the sikhs of 1984. we were not born then yet we seem to think what the hell. Sikhi is about anak and we have lost urs. its hard to justify to a non sikh but hell we need to educate ourselves to tell the story of the pain of 1984-1995 onwards

Think of the innocent people who were killed before her death in the Darbar sahib complex.

The assassination of indra was only a further excuse for the atrocities the indian government / rajiv gandhi were already committing/ planning against the sikhs, her assassination was not the sole cause of the slaughter of sikhs.

Like i have already said people forget that hundred/ thousands innocents were already killed before her death. some celebrate some do not, but she was a tyrant who was party to many evil atrocities and deserved what she got.

Gurfateh Ji

Thanks for all the reply's but the main question was as gursikhs in gurmat view, should we be celebrating the death of Indira not whether it was right or wrong. Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh had to do what they had to do. There should be no question as to whether it was right or wrong. They will always be regarded in my eyes as great sikh martyrs same as Bhai Mehtab Singh and Bhai Sukha Singh. My only question was as gursikhs should we be celebrating the death, in a gurmat perspective?

bhul chuk maaf

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa , Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Should we be celebrating the jeet / fateh of the panth over tyranny and evil is what you are asking answer is yes, had this question ever been put to puratan Gursikhs and i am sure even after losing their families they would have said yes without any shadow of a doubt, but today some are too wrapped up in cotton wool / moh (attachment) and afraid to hurt even a fly !!

Celebrating does not mean bhangra or throwing a party, but ardas and shukrana to waheguru ji for bringing indra's evil reign to an end and parnam / namashar to the saheeds who died for and defended the honour of the panth ! :respect:

Yes around 1984 there was rightly celebration (mathhiya/laddo) of indira oppressor stopped by shahids of the panth. However, main question is -do we want to continue this tradition of celebration? I don't know i m bit divided on this, as we don't celebrate with mathiya and laddo death of abdali, aurenzeb, masa ranghar and other mugal oppressors.

With that being said, indira attrocity and downfall episode should be part of every soraj parkash granth katha and should be mentioned in the same breath while other oppressors and their downfall mentioned this ensures our youths are connected with sikh history and proud of our shaheds/sipahi concept of sant but at the same time does not get carried away in emotions as all this is big khel/play of akaal purkh and akaal purkh hakum himself and only way one can understand or come in terms with this khel of akaal purkh is to be outside/de-attached from maya realm of all emotions, both evident and subtle notions of panj vices.

n30singh, i agree100% with you veer but we must also remember that indira was in our life time so the wounds are still fresh but you are correct our shaheeds should be celebrated they are our heeray (diamonds) and should never be mourned but always remembered forever and ever. and this episode in our history should be recorded for future generations. obviously not by dancing and make a mockeray like other religions do buy burning effigies etc, but buy prayer and ardas.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
