Bollywood And The Sikh Turban, Once Again!

Recommended Posts

Members of Censor Board object to some pagdi scenes in Sunny Deol's next.

A source from the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reveals that some members have objected to a sequence in the new Sunny Deol-starrer Singh Saab The Great where he takes his turban off to use it to save a childs life. They asked for the scene to be deleted as they think, it was likely to hurt religious sentiments.

Says the source, When some panel members objected to the scene, director Anil Sharma fought back arguing that every religion preaches protection of children and women from danger. In fact, a woman panelist from the Board even pointed out that women are known to take off their saris to save endangered lives from plunging to death.

However, the Board refused to give a nod to the scene, as any matter pertaining to religious sentiments is seen to be extra-sensitive. Sharma refused to take the cut. He went to the Revising Committee of the CBFC, and the objectionable scene has now been cleared with a UA certificate. Some members also objected to the Singh in the title arguing it was associated with the holy scriptures of the Sikh religion. However, Sharma insisted that proper names cannot be patented for religious or cultural purposes.

Pehle bhi...

This isnt the first film with a Sardar-hero to get into trouble. Sikh organisations raised a hue and cry over Akshay Kumars, Ranbir Kapoors and Saif Ali Khans length of the beard and/or the way the turban was tied in Singh Is Kinng, Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year and Love Aaj Kal.

They do this on purpose. There is a clear difference from Waris being artistically portrayed to this clear disrespect to Sikh identity.

Best way to combat these movies is to not watch them and raise awareness how they are intentionally being offensive. Awareness is the biggest key of the game.

They won't care. Sikhs are a small section of their audience and a huge majority do watch Bollywood and will continue to. Best is to hit them where it hurts, and that is implement a ban on any Bollywood movie in foreign countries that has ANY sort of racist content. This should be followed by a ban on Indian TV channels that have soap operas that have potentially racist content. This is the age of information and economic warfare Singho. These days if you want to bother someone, you bother their source of income. Likewise, if we need to hit back at Bollywood, we hit back where they feel the maximum pain. Boycotting movies will give them free and instant publicity. Its the new formula Indian film makers use these days. Make a movie, add some controversial masala, and voila, its a blockbuster overnight while it could have been another (unheard of) mega flop (that bombed at the box office) if that controversial content wasn't there.

We have to hit the enemy with his own weapon but without stooping down to his low levels! First step was UN petition, now lets go after their entertainment industries. These guys have made a lot of money making fun of us. Time for payback!

The best way to stop this junk is not to give them a penny of our money - DO NOT download any of the MP3 songs from this movie, DO NOT buy any tickets to the DEOL family stage shows, DO NOT buy tickets to watch bollywood films at the cinema. And at any given opportunity when phoning in radio shows, on social media, talking to friends and family state as much as possible what a FLOP it is - this will make sure any <banned word filter activated> that wants to use Sikh / Punjabi images to make cheap wise cracks at our expense will never fund another film again.

Didn't Sikh soldiers remove their turbans to cover clotheless ladies who were being abused by the Pak army in Bangladesh during the 1971 war?

Not justifying Bollywood.

Sunny deol is bullshiter ... few years ago he offended sikh kaum in one movie.

SikhKosh, even if those soldiers did that (which I never heard) does not make the rule or justify removal of turban.

Nothing going to happen as our people are the main reason why these film makers continue to make sardar movies. Deols are always in California to release their movies with house full of sikh punjabis even after panthic jathebandi were against some of their movies.

Same like sikh people of Punjab are making French company profitable by buying their latest SUV Renault duster even knowing that French got rules against turban.

'As a perfect Saint’s (Sadhu) heart is like an ocean of compassion which recognizes the pain of others and is always there to help. Baba Ji listening to her plight instantly told the lady to find two ladders, meanwhile assessing the house on fire they found that the lower floor of the house had been severely burnt and the upper was yet inflames. Unable to find a rope Baba Ji took off his turban and tied the two ladders together in order to reach a small window on the upper floor and began to climb up. Sant Lal Singh Ji worried for their safety told Baba Ji not to climb up, as the fire was too intense and he was risking his own life. But Baba Ji whilst reciting prays had begun to climb up to the upper floor. He went in quickly, picked up the child and wrapped him in a blanket and tied him to his waist and then grabbed some of the ladies possessions and threw them down to her and carefully climbed out of the window with the child and down the ladder, placing that fortunate child into the longing arms of his mother'

Taken from Pachmi Parkash, Baba Karam Singh Ji

I'm not justyfing bollywood aswell and don't agree with any of their movies, but just highlighting the point of taking your dastaar off to save someone's life isn't going to be beadbi to the dastaar.
