Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has made some significant achievements for Sikhs (parchar, unity and freedom).

He has also exposed true Indian feelings. When you read malicious stories in the hindu media, you feel the true sentiment of India towards Sikhs.

Wake up Khalsa Ji! the jackal (opportunistic predator) is still at the door...

Issue of Sikh detainees may turn heat on rights violations by cops

IP Singh,TNN | Dec 28, 2013, 06.25 AM IST

JALANDHAR: While political ramifications of the groundswell support for Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa's fast for the release of Beant Singh case convicts, which forced the SAD(B)-led Punjab government to take a U-turn on the issue, are still being assessed, a section of Punjab Police top brass is wary of the human rights perspective linked to the matter.

"If a human rights issue gets such prominence, forcing even Punjab government to change its position, police officials, accused of rights abuses in the past and some still with similar tendencies, are apprehensive that they could also face the heat in days to come. There is whispering within the police department that some of its police officials could also face adverse publicity if the unified character of human rights movement continues, especially when it has won support from different sections of people, without becoming a communal issue," revealed official sources.

"A serving inspector general (IG) of police is still enjoying plum posts even as an inquiry ordered against him by the then state DGP six years back for eliminating an innocent youth in the 1990s, instead of a terrorist who was later found alive, is still pending. It reflects the extent of immunity from legal action to the erring cops. Hushing up of allegations levelled by a sub-inspector just six months back that he eliminated 83 people in fake encounters at the behest of his bosses also reflects the immunity," a police official pointed out.

Senior figures of Punjab government and SAD leaders are facing adverse publicity with human rights violations cases being filed against them in foreign countries. "In the build-up around the rights issues back home, and it gaining popularity, which would have direct bearing on police officials who have been gone beyond their legal or professional boundaries," remarked a former police official.

"Police officials facing accusations of serious human rights violations have been perpetually enjoying immunity in Punjab even as governments changed. They would never like voice for human rights getting louder. Worst for them is a public movement about human rights, which can blow off the cover of immunity with impunity," said Gurbachan Singh, general secretary of Punjab Human Rights Organization (PHRO).

Gurbachan said the onus to save the rights movement from being hijacked by those in cahoots with government or its agencies was on those who are at the centre of the current build-up. "Those with vested interests in the police department and intelligence setup can use their old contacts in the pro-separatist movement to try and change the character of the current build-up and then to derail it. Former Intelligence Bureau joint director M K Dhar had already exposed such tricks in Punjab," he remarked.

Gurbaksh fast: Sikh diaspora sees politics behind Akal Takht intervention

AMRITSAR: Sikh diaspora apprehends politics behind delayed intervention of Akal Takht in directing Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa to end his fast-unto-death to seek the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences, and also condemned those religious outfits who doubted his integrity.

A representative of Movement Against Atrocities and Repression (MAAR), Harminder Singh Khalsa told TOI that Akal Takht jathedar Gurbachan Singh had issued an edict directing Gurbaksh to end his fast a couple of days after Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's statement on the issue. He said Gurbaksh's hunger strike had stunned the SAD-BJP government and also awakened the Sikhs worldwide.

Gurdeep Singh, from Centre for Sikhs Studies, said, "We can only hope and believe that if political parties, Union and state governments want Sikhs to be a part and parcel of the Indian mainstream, then assurances made by the authorities concerned and the process of releasing detained Sikhs and others non-Sikhs should continue on a fair basis without any hurdles."

"All political outfits in India should come forward and play a constructive role in maintaining peace in Punjab," Gurdeep suggested.

Karan Singh, president, Sikh Foundation, Langenthal (Switzerland), said, "We do not challenge the integrity of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa who has been on hunger strike for such a long period. I doubt that an Amritdhari (baptised) Sikh who lives strictly as per the teachings of gurus would not be honest." Gurbaksh, he added, was not left with any other option but to put his life at stake for the release of Sikh convicts languishing in jails after completion of their terms. He said many Sikhs groups were disturbed with the late intervention of Akal Takht and added that the jathedar had failed to take a strong position in supporting the justified demands of Gurbaksh.

**SOPW PRESS RELEASE** A DEBT HONOURED - SOPW WITH THE SANGAT'S SUPPORT AWARDS 5 LAKH RUPEES TO EACH OF THE SIX PRISONERS.

Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s peaceful campaign has led to the start of a process to release six long-serving Sikh political prisoners, by securing their release on parole. He played his part in awakening the wider public to the ongoing injustices against Sikhs in India. As part of this movement we saw people from all over the world, raising awareness and taking part in hunger strikes, including five Singh’s who spent five bitterly cold days and nights, outside the Indian Embassy in London.

For over five years, SOPW has been committed to the welfare of all Sikh political prisoners. This process consists of the following steps:

- Once we identify a prisoner, we immediately take care of his or her basic needs, eg. food, clothes, toiletries, books, magazines and newspapers, to make prison life a little easier.
- We talk to them to find out who they have left behind in their family; elderly parents with no other support, a family member in need of medical attention, their children whose education is interrupted, a sibling who is due to be married and of course, their family home which may be in need of urgent repairs. Our fieldworkers remain in regular contact with the prisoner as well as his/her family; providing advice, support and financial aid.
- Often, we find that the Sikhs had inadequate legal representation, with the lawyers taking the money but not getting the results. So we hire the best legal team for them, personally monitor the court case, cover the necessary bail bonds and other hidden costs involved in getting the prisoner released. Financing the lawyers makes up a large part of our costs as some cases need to be taken all the way to High Court and even Supreme Court level, where the expertise of just one lawyer can cost upwards of £10,000.
- Our support does not stop upon release. We run a rehabilitation programme; which provides the means for self-sufficiency, so that they can support their own family and rebuild their lives with dignity after decades in Indian jails. Our philosophy is to “thrive, not just survive”.

We have tried our best to support these prisoners through all of the above stages. The SOPW team feel it is in keeping with our religious and moral duty to support these Singh’s as they taste freedom for the first time in many years. We have also been inundated with messages from the worldwide Sangat, who wish to see these Singh’s supported.

IN KEEPING WITH SOPW AND THE SANGAT’S WISHES, WE HUMBLY ANNOUNCE A REHABILITATION PACKAGE OF 500,000 Rs (over £5,000) TO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING SIX;

Gurmeet Singh
Shamsher Singh
Lakhwinder Singh
Lal Singh
Varyam Singh
Gurdeep Singh Khera

They will be starting their lives again from the beginning, after spending over 18 years behind bars – a time during which the world has changed. We are not giving these brave Singh’s a handout. United, we the Sikh Nation, are paying back the debt to those who stood up against an oppressive State system and brought to an end the mindless killing of thousands of our innocent Sikh youth.

We have the following nominated volunteers around the global Sikh community, who have put themselves forward for this project and will assist you with your enquiries:

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
