ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਇਫਤਰਾ ਭਾਈ ਦਿਲ ਕਾ ਫਿਕਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

The Vedas and the Scriptures are only make-believe,

O Siblings of Destiny; they do not relieve the anxiety

of the heart. (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 727)

Veerji if you are suggesting studying SGGS does not freee you from worldly concerns , I challenge you to do it and see yourself completely transform

You should read the whole shabad you quoted from -

Something that just I remembered - there was a wonderful post regarding this question on GurmatBibek website but I can't find that thread at the moment.

Anyways, the explanation was that Gurbani has two forms (lack of a better word)

1 - Mantar roop

-repeating again and again without understanding will give you "phal".

-repeating will condition your mind slowing removing dirt from many lifetimes

2 - Updesh roop

-gives you guidance on all aspects of life but most importantly on the bhagtee marg.

So SatGuru Granth Sahib is our Teacher and also our Deity - Gur Jaisa Nahee ko deyv.

hsingh68 rote

if you repeat a naam mantar like a parrot, or you trying to build up your avasta, or you think a mantar has a magical power in it, or you think by repeating a mantar again and again will lead you to God then it is a ritual. However if you try to understand why this mantar was given and try to do shabad veechar as gurbani mentions then it isn't a ritual.

What is gurmantra then? Do we not do naam japna by repetition of Guramantra. Tell us if you do naam jaap and if you do how do you do it.

Gur-Man-Tar

Man=Mind.

Tar=Tool

Why a tool ??

How does One steady their mind and stop following their thoughts ?

Well, I certainly need a Tool to help me with this and mine is the Gurmantar-Waheguru !

As for all the yapping about rituals, this is nonsense....... -typical missionary/afghana talk !

Rituals help define a faith or religion.

Blind rituals where there is NO spiritual attainment from empty actions is not gurmat. If you want to call parroting simran a ritual, then you can if it pleases you Mr Hsingh, but at the end of the day it is NOT empty or blind, and there certainly can be spiritual attianment.s

Enlightening post by luckysingh ji.Only That ritualism, wherein a seeker wishes to attain salvation without resorting to

self effort i.e. doing naam simran, is not accepted in sikhism.

Kala afghana cult need to tell us

1) When they say shabad , what is meaning of it.

All this kala afghana/missionary cult is empty talk and no practicality.

I think you misunderstood the point of his post, he was saying that by repeating something blindly with no good faith or intentions, you won't get anywhere.

Nothing wrong with rituals, as long as they're not blind; they should serve a purpose, i.e. to better oneself, help the panth, and improve society.

I do not think i misunderstood his post. He is ridiculing Naam simran.Naam simran is essence of Guru

Granth sahib teachings.

There is no other way to realize God other than Naam simraan.Guru Sahibs have shown a simple way

following which , academically qualified or unlettered person, both can achieve God realization.

He should himself answer the queries.
