HYDERABAD: Enraged over his turban being knocked off by a mob that was assaulting him, a Sikh man stabbed two persons with his kirpan, of whom one succumbed to injuries here on Tuesday.

According to police, Satvinder Singh, a civil contractor from Ameerpet who owns a shop near Satyam theatre, was travelling on his scooter when he collided with local businessman Rishi Sehgal and fell down from his vehicle near Sona Bai temple around 11.45 am. Upon this, Rishi laughed at Satvinder and this provoked the latter to beat up Rishi.

Rishi's brother Ranjit, who runs a fast-food joint nearby, immediately rushed to his brother's rescue along with his workers and they began dragging Satvinder towards the SR Nagar police station with the intention of handing him over to the cops. In the melee, Satvinder's turban got dislodged and the enraged sardar then whipped out his kirpan and stabbed Ranjit and his employee Subash in the stomach.

The two were rushed to a nearby private hospital. However, 35-year-old Ranjit succumbed to injuries, while Subash is said to be out of danger. Satvinder ran away from the spot but was later arrested and booked for murder.

According to police, there was enmity between Satvinder and Ranjit. "Satvinder leased his shop to a fast-food joint. Ranjit, who runs his own fast food eatery nearby, had recently lodged a complaint with the GHMC alleging that the fast-food joint run from the premises owned by Satvinder Singh has violated several norms. This prompted corporation officials to visit the place for inspection. Following this, Satvinder bore a grudge against Ranjit and the two were not speaking to each other," SR Nagar inspector N Shankar said.

While the scuffle between Satvinder and Rishi was because the latter was laughing at the former after he fell down on the road, the stabbing could be because the sardar was deeply offended over his turban being knocked down, the cops said.

Based on a complaint lodged by Ranjit's family members, police registered a case against Satvinder under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.

Inappropriate use, the others were not armed, this was cowardly.

According to sheep thinking you are correct. He initially beat the thug without a kirpan. The thug's brother and brother's employees in the process of inflicting grievous injuries knocked off the the Singhs Dastar. Obviously you hide in your house your whole life and do not understand that a gang of people can cause major injuries to a person in a few seconds. Knocking off the Singhs dastar was a clear sign the gang had no regard for the Singh's well being and to uphold the law of so called handing him over to the police.

Lastly, to take the story written at face value by TimesofIndia shows how naive you are.
