Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

This is what Margaret Thatcher said on 31 Oct 1984 -

"As the House will be aware, Mrs. Gandhi was assassinated in Delhi today. I am sure that right hon. and hon. Members in all parts of the House will be equally appalled at that tragic news. I am sure, too, that the whole House will wish to join in expressing to Mrs. Gandhi's family, and to the Government and people of India, our profound grief and sympathy.

This despicable act has robbed India of a great and courageous leader. Daughter of Pandit Nehru, one of the pioneers of India's independence, she led her country for a total of 16 years as Prime Minister, a period which saw India's emergence as an industrial power as well as a major influence in world affairs. Her death has also robbed the Commonwealth of a statesman of outstanding stature and experience.

Mrs. Gandhi chaired the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, in November last year, with dignity, authority and charm. We shall all feel the loss of her wise counsel and her deep humanity, the more so because we knew her not only as a statesman but as a friend of this country.

I understand, although it is not yet confirmed officially, that Mrs. Gandhi's son, Rajiv Gandhi, whom we know well and for whom we have both affection and respect, has been sworn in as the new Indian Prime Minister. We wish him well at this difficult hour in his country's history.

Only a few days ago, Mrs. Gandhi sent me a message in which she said: ‘All terrorism and violence are condemnable and contemptible".’ The murder of a democratic leader is an attack on democracy itself. We utterly condemn this savage and treacherous crime. Let there be no doubt that acts of terrorism will only strenghten the resolve of free peoples that those who resort to violence shall not prevail."

During and after 1984, it seems clear that the British parliament was directly misled when questions (relating to Britains involvement) were asked. What will be done? nothing...

Terry Dicks MP (Hayes and Harlington) Jan 1989 - "Have the British Government made any representations to this evil Indian Government about their persecution of the Sikhs in the Punjab? If not, why not?"

Yes Bhaji, it is disgusting. It is also very revealing.

Margaret Thatcher made a biased statement and neglected to mention the attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib in June 1984 when Indira Gandhi's army attacked, murdered and committed genocide of Sikhs, including women and children, and all but destroyed the Golden Temple complex.

After the above statement, during the following 3 days in Dehli, thousands of Sikhs were murdered in a holocaust. Margaret Thatcher said nothing.

Why could Margaret Thatcher never support Sikhs? It is plain to see with the statement she made.

It is also clear evidence that Margaret Thatcher regarded the most vile person/ family responsible for Sikh genocide as 'a friend of this country.'

Margaret Thatcher called Indira a 'democratic leader'. On 12 June 1975 the High Court of Allahabad declared Indira Gandhi's election to the Lok Sabha 'void' on grounds of electoral malpractice. The court thus ordered her to be removed from her seat in Parliament and banned from running in elections for six years.

Gandhi responded by ordering the arrest of most of the opposition and by declaring a state of emergency, giving her dictatorial powers. Civil liberties and democracy were suspended during the Emergency.

Within a few months, the president's rule was imposed on the two opposition party ruled states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu thereby bringing the entire country under direct Central rule or by governments led by the ruling Congress party. Police were granted powers to impose curfews and indefinitely detain citizens and all publications were subjected to substantial censorship by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Finally, impending legislative assembly elections were indefinitely postponed, with all opposition-controlled state governments being removed by virtue of the constitutional provision allowing for a dismissal of a state government on recommendation of the state's governor.

Opposition leaders were further arrested. A controversial family planning program was put in place, which led to many Indians being unwillingly sterilized.

Indira Gandhi was an extremist military dictator that abused the rule of law and democracy in India for two years.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

An update, broadcast today (24th January 2014) on Sikh channel.

The official states 'this is not a review into Operation Bluestar or the actions of the Indian government. It is about what role the UK might have played...'.

I'm not very surprised at the involvement I the British Government as they have robbed and raped many countries in the world, it's their robbing and raping of countries what made the money to fund the Great in Great Britain. My grandmother said, when they walked from Lahore to patiala in 1947, the English soldiers would literally watch them walk by without offering any assistance. It was due to the courage of the Gurkas and obviously the courage of themselves that many people reached the other side relatively unharmed, just how the British forces looked on then, they have once again spat in the face of sikhs, who for some reason feel some form of allegence to Britain. Even after so many years of abuse. Yes we are the most integrated immigrant community in Britain, but maybe we should of took a leaf out of the Jewish community and Muslim communities book and held back abit as our religious outlook has a been westernised, whereas the Jewish and Muslim community kept their religion as the most important aspect of them, rather than "fitting in".

It's time for british sikhs to take a stand enough of integration put your religon first make sure your kids dont put british identity first but sikhi first. There's no point in integrating in a society that hates you. In canada we are a strong force and you know why because we haven't put so much importance in fully assimilating in this society. Seriously western laws are a joke now. Full intergration just leads to problems remember that gay sikh on twitter i bet you anything tht guy was brought up to fit in in western values.

Jews suffered numerous Genocide(s), latest - genocide at the hands of HITLER.

Does this Blue Star of Jews point to a SIKH GENOCIDE similar to Jews Genocide?

UKL = Khalsa Ji as we all know all Sikhs should tyaar bar tyaar and shastardhari, so provided we can increase ekta within the Panth, there's no major danger of a Hitler-style gas chambers Genocide affecting Sikhs any time soon. However, the silent Genocide inflicted (and also self-facilitated to a degree) in terms of drugs, alcohol, illiteracy, female infanticide, biraderi, cancer and poverty are largely being ignored, so we the ordinary Sangat have to stand up and mark 30years via financial action rather than simply the usual slogans.

Role of the Akalis

UKL = Waljinder Singh Ji, just to politely point out to you that so-called Akali letter you posted was actually a fake put out by Congress and its proxies who liquidated Longowal in order to carry out Genocide of Sikhs we witnessed 1985-1995 (which Longowal had sought in vain to try and prevent)

jagjit chauhan was a big fake and was working with indian govt from the start.

UKL = Imho you are correct as Sant Ji never once asked for Khalistan yet Congress and their proxies brought the term to prominence in order to garner the Hindutva vote for Indira Gandhi (and to blur the equal rights demand made in the Anandpur Sahib Resolution).

The mentality of the British government of the time is shown when instead of urging the Indian government to exercise restraint and look to a peaceful solution, it looks like the government jumped at the chance to do the Indians a favour in return for sales of military equipment. The British government was in a better position than other western governments in putting pressure on the Indian government to not go ahead with the operation by citing the fact that the attack would cause trouble not just in India but also in the UK given the large Sikh population living here.

The Sikh demand should not just be for full disclosure which is the least that can be expected from a responsible government but a real commitment from the government to make amends for the actions of the government of the time. This should take the form of assisting Sikh groups in their fight for justice for the genocide committed by the Indian government.

UKL = I totally agree with you Paji. However, I don't think Cameron etc are going to assist the Qaum for justice any time soon when they are more interested in a consumer market of 1.3 billion people. However, what I believe we should have as our target and focus is to extract at least £30-100million pounds of international development funding allocated by June 2014 to assist human development in Punjab in terms of tackling illiteracy, poverty, drugs, cancer in East Punjab as a small form of compensation from the current UK Sarkar if they seriously expect to see any Sikh votes in May 2015. Serious lobbying could just about pull this off if we see this as our target (rather than just disclosure of UK's collaboration with Indira Gandhi in 1984's Genocide of Sikhs and thereafter)
