Brit Security Officials Visited Golden Temple: Ex-RAW Man

AMRITSAR | JAN 15, 2014

Amid claims that the Margaret Thatcher government might have helped Indira Gandhi plan Operation Blue Star, radical Sikh group Dal Khalsa today said a former RAW official had mentioned in his book that British Security Service officers visited the Golden Temple to assess the ground situation before giving their advice to Gandhi.

Spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said B Raman, who authored "The Kaoboys of R&AW" in 2007, wrote in the chapter 'The Khalistani Terrorism' that on the request of R N Kao, the then special adviser to Indian Prime Minister, two officers of the British Security Service visited the Golden Temple as tourists and gave their advice to Indira Gandhi.

"One thing is now clear that British government was engaged and their advice was sought and the latter did oblige. However, there is a grey area as to what they had advised and whether that advice was taken into account or just ignored by Indira Gandhi," Singh said.

Can we anticipate even USA and other western nation's involvement?

I have heard in the past that CIA was aware of 1984 November Sikh Genocide, and it was planned to happen irrespective of Mrs. Gandhi's assasination? Does Mrs. Sonia Gandhi knew much about it?

Is the information leakage happening for a specific purpose now? It is quite obvious that such information will not come in the public domain without any vested interests? What can these vested interests be, and whom/how they can serve? How is mighty of the mightiest?

It is very unfortunate to hear from Mr. Cameroon that he takes a comment from Mr. Brar as an acceptable comment, (which all of us know is nothing more than pure lie) rather than making a comment - let's wait for the full investigation report. This shows serious doubts over the intent of this investigation and a pre-mature investigation results which is being prepared.

It is also interesting to see NDTV posting the article (with Mr. Brar comments) with Mr. Brar picture still in stitches, 1 year after attack? I remember his stitches were removed as soon as he reached India, and there were no wounds or even signs of any wounds :).

What can Sikh's or Sikh organisations do, react emotionally, and make statements - "My VOTE is not for Tories"?

OR "Let's wait for the facts to be established".

Various Options -

(a). FACTS Established say Britain gave design & planning assistance to India probably including the timing of this operation, "What can SIKHS DO". Do we have an answer to this question today?

(b). FACTS Established say Britain & Other Western Nations gave design & planning assistance to India probably including the timing of this operation, "What can SIKHS DO". Do we have an answer to this question today?

©. FACTS Established say Britain was not involved, Mrs. Thatcher was involved at a personal level and engaged SAS at a personal level. "What can SIKHS DO". Do we have an answer to this question today?

(d). An investigation report is prepared saying "Neither Britain NOR Mr. Thatcher personally was involved, these documents are not authentic". How many of us are going to believe this report? And what can be a subsequent action?

Any more options which anybody can think of? I know it is too early to anticipate the future developments, but I can blindly say whatever Mr. Brar says - just assume things happened 180degrees reverse of it ...

No evidence of Thatcher link to Op Bluestar: David Cameron

London: Prime Minister David Cameron today said there was no evidence so far to suggest that elite British special forces played a role in the 1984 Operation Bluestar to flush out Sikh militants holed up in the Golden Temple. "I don't want to prejudge the outcome, but I would note that so far it has not found any evidence to contradict the insistence by senior Indian army commanders responsible at the time that the responsibility for this was carried out solely by the Indian army," he told Parliament. David Cameron. AFP Cameron's remarks came while fielding questions from opposition MPs on claims that the country's Special Air Services (SAS) commanders helped out with the military operation to flush out Sikh militants holed up in the Golden Temple on orders of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. "I think it is important to put that, but it is important to get to the bottom of this...the findings of the official inquiry into the incident will be made public," Cameron said, a day after ordering an urgent probe into the decision by Thatcher's government in 1984. Cameron has asked Cabinet Secretary Jeremy Heywood to conduct the investigation after documents declassified suggested a British special forces officer advised the Indians on carrying out the attack. The claims have emerged from documents released by the National Archives in London under the 30-year declassification rule as part of the series over the New Year. Labour MP Tom Watson and Pat McFadden had raised the issue in the House of Commons, demanding full disclosure of the issue. Watson and Lord Indarjit Singh had demanded an explanation after the documents made public indicated that the officer of Britain's SAS was dispatched to help India plan for the raid on the Golden Temple, an operation that left over 1,000 people dead. Cameron said the assault had left "deep scars" and "incredibly strong feelings that exist to this day". Sikh groups in the UK have claimed the latest developments prove a deeper controversy that they had always suspected. A "top secret and personal" letter, dated February 23, 1984, nearly four months before the raid in Amritsar, and titled "Sikh Community", stated: "The Indian authorities recently sought British advice over a plan to remove Sikh extremists from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. "The Foreign Secretary decided to respond favourably to the Indian request and, with the Prime Minister's agreement, an SAD (sic) officer has visited India and drawn up a plan which has been approved by Mrs Gandhi. The Foreign Secretary believes that the Indian Government may put the plan into operation shortly," the letter said. The file, contents of which have been seen by PTI, also contains notes on some missing letters dated February 3, 23 and 27, 1984, which have been "retained under Section 3(4) of the Public Records Act of 1958". "These documents prove what Sikhs have suspected all along, that plans to invade the Golden Temple went back months even though the Indian government was claiming even weeks before that there were no such plans," Lord Singh, the director of the Network of Sikh Organisations in the UK who also plans to raise the issue in the House of Lords, said. Five months after Operation Bluestar, Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in retaliation for the raid on the Golden Temple. PTI

I thought he would like to know the 'truth' by the investigation or probe he ordered. He surely admired the statement of Gen Brar that UK is 'clean'.
