i agree - but i dont deem it that important. I think its something nice n special to have with your partner but not essential. Now, Christians wear rings (although half of them dont even know the significance) because ure wedding finger has a vein running from it that goes straight to your heart. But its kool if you gift each other with a kirpan or kara or something like that. But what is essential is gifting each other with pyaar and together gifting Maharaaj with pyaar for giving you that pyaar... if ya know wot i mean pray.gif

Sikhs do not enter into the western concept of marriage, but rather into 'gristhee jeevan'. The point of gristee jeevan is that you are 1 soul going towards gurusahib.

I think, if a couple wish to exchange wedding gifts they should be sikhi related so that it will aid them on their journey towards gurusahib..these western gifts are meaningless in sikhi and we are only accustomed to them because we pay more attention to culture, fashion or tradition as oppose to sikhi.

That is just my opinion on the subject.

The most precious and priceless gems and jewels are obtained by serving the True Guru. (SGGSJ- 1323)

Kabeer, earrings made of gold and studded with jewels, look like burnt twigs, if the Name is not in the mind. ||4||

(SGGSJ-1364)

Jewels, treasures, pearls, gold and silver-all these are just dust.

(SGGSJ-47)

She is the most beautiful among women; upon her forehead she wears the Jewel of the Lord's Love.

(SGGSJ-53)

Great wealth, elephants, horses and jewels, purchased with tens of thousands of dollars;hereafter, these shall be of no avail in the Court of the Lord; the proud must depart, leaving them behind. ||1||

(SGGSJ-379)

Gold, jewels, giant pearls and rubies - I have no need for them.

(SGGSJ-406)
