Need Motivation To Do Naam Simran

Recommended Posts

Sangat ji, as a teenager who is trying to do Naam Simran atleast 2 hours a day I am currently having a struggle in pondering that I don't benefit from it. I feel like I don't benefit from doing Naam Simran. I still will be doing Naam SImran of course because of how much our Bani emphasizes on chanting His Name. Does anyone have motivational stories that people have experienced during Naam SImran? Does it take many years to finally experience something from Naam Simran? Are people allowed to tell their own experiences or must keep it to themselves?

How much Gurbani do you read with concentration? Guru sahib says you need Shabad to be able to do simran with devotion. Reading gurbani as a parrot will cause you to do simran like a parrot. Although you don't feel anything while doing simran, it still is benefiting you. Read Gurbani with concentration if tou want to feel the energy of Simran.

Not that I have any kamai or anything but what I have learned in my own life is A) never to give up on any aspect of Sikhi and B) recognising faults in ourselves mean the seed is still present, the light is still burning and that's half the battle won. When we get knocked down we need to dust ourselves down and start from scratch. Experiencing the bliss of naam comes easily to some and takes longer for others and this of course depends on karma from previous lives.

The lahaa increases in Sangati roop significantly and can leave you feeling charged the whole day.

In terms of sharing miracles you may/ may not have noticed it's advisable to keep those to yourself and not tell others as kamai is lost much quicker than gained. At the end of the day, would you share details of your bank account with someone else?

As Sat said, 2 hours per day is amazing!!

Do not want anything when doing Naam Simran. If you do want/ask for something then ask for LOVE nothing else. Simply do Simran out of love and devotion to Vaheguru. Vaheguru Ji's language is LOVE.

Understanding Jap Ji Sahib was the key for me. Jap Ji Sahib tells us what/who Vaheguru is and the exact way to connect with Vaheguru.

Thanks for your input and everyone else's posts too. I will recite Japji Sahib every time before I do Naam Simran to help myself. There are stories sants saying it takes them 15 - 20 years for some kind of experience to take place but on the other hand some receive them quickly. I guess it matters how much devotion and love you put into doing simran.

If you go digging for gold you may strike gold with you first dig or you may have to dig 10 feet or 100 feet. We are all different. Remember Vaheguru is inside you. Just listen to your own void when doing simran.

Dear veer ji,

Why don't you start to sing the gurus bani using a harmonium, participating in Kirtan whilst at home or at the gurdwara, Kirtan is a beautiful way to remember waheguru in his praise, this is also Naam Japan as the gurbani is the the gur mantra and the Truth of the Naam of the Akal Purakh waheguru.

I leave you with one of my favourite shabads, beautifully recited by bhai satvinder Singh ji and bhai harjinder Singh ji Delhi wale, close your eyes and simply just listen dear brother....hope it helps!

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
