Interfaith Marriages All Over The World

Recommended Posts

As a GurSikh from America, here I can see more interfaith weddings happening within my own community and all over my own country. I was curious if your sangat in Canada, UK, Austrialia, others are seeing more interfaith marriages occurring in gurdwaras than usually. I really think this is becoming a bigger issue within the panth. I know there are a lot of topics on it, but how do we tackle on the issue of stopping interfaith marriages in gurdwaras. A protest by locking a gurdwara seems a little harsh but does work, but I think gurdwara committees need to step up following the rehit better and we can see a lot less cases happen in the future. I'd like to hear your opinion on this issue.

Even in India clean shaven, trimmers & Hindu punjabi have a ceremony at Gurdwaras.

One committee allows such marriages but say no to Second Marriage ceremony.

I feel divorces marrying again in Gurdwara is a bigger sacrilege.

Why do they say no to divorcees? Is this true?

Interfaith marriages are a bigger problem to me and many Gursikhs. Because their child might go one way or another picking a faith such as Hinduism over Sikhism. This can lead to blending different aspects of both faiths by their children which should not be allowed as we know Anti-Panthic forces want Sikhism to merge into Hinduism and with Hindu-Sikh marriages going on it can get worse. Of course there are Christian-Sikh marriages and Muslim-Sikh marriages. This is my own opinion.

I find that comment really insulting.

FYI im a divorcee myself and also a mona. My ex was having an affair and is now living with this man.

As a guy that is very much into Sikhi but has not got there yet i find it very insulting that you say a person in my situation can not get married in a gurdwara.

Thankgod you are in the minority or else perhaps i myself would think twice.

We are not the taliban. Its 2014. Religion must also progress with the times within reason.
