What Are The Yugs About ?

Can someone please give me a SIMPLE explanation of what these yugs (satyug, kalyug, trepta etc) are about because everything that I find on the internet simply goes over my head !

In Sikhism, it is believed that one should meditate on God as much as possible because of the world being in Kali Yuga. Because of Kali Yuga, it is stressed that one should meditate as much as possible to reach the state of Nirvana and be liberated or be one with God. Guru Granth Sahib Ji on Ang:1185 says:

ab kaloo aaeiou rae

Now, the Dark Age of Kali Yuga has come.

eik naam bovahu bovahu ||

Plant the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.

an rooth naahee naahee ||

It is not the season to plant other seeds.

math bharam bhoolahu bhoolahu ||

Do not wander lost in doubt and delusion.

1) Right now we're supposedly in the Kaal Yug (age of darkness, one of the 4 ages), if and when the Saatch Yug (age of light/truth) comes, does that mean everything is good or there's still a mixture?


If everything is good, how would you know what was good? If everything was bad, how would you know what was bad? The four yugs (ages) don't occur in a linear fashion one after the other. All four are always in motion at exactly the same time, however one is always a bit more dominant than the others. Hence in the Kal Yug the darkness is dominant but you also have some saatch (light/truth/wisdom), and in the Saatch Yug you will also have some kal (darkness/ignorance), but the saatch will be dominant. Right now the kal is dominant, but it doesn't last.

I love the way that Sant darshan dhakkiwale explains that.

All the yugs are in motion all the while but depending on our state of minds, anyone can be more dominant.

Sant ji gives some very deep and profound wisdom in some of his videos, and you have to try and catch his subtle hints.

I love the way that he puts deep emphasis on abyaas.

All these 4 yugas, in a way are like 4 seasons in one year.

The main difference between them is the span of time, and the presence of truth(something like oxygen necessary to live and survive) becomes lesser and lesser, as it goes in the downward direction from Sat Yuga to Kal Yuga.

They are as follows:

The first one is Sat Yuga

The second one is Treta Yuga

The third one is Dwapur Yuga

And the fourth one, current now is Kal Yuga.

In the 1st one prevails more purity, people are more religious minded, and there is almost no wickedness; but as one goes downwards as said before, truthfullness is on the decrease, and the sin is on increase.

The Kal Yuga, is the most polluted with evilness and ignorance. And here the span of life of humans is at most around 100 years.

But in any case, in any of these yugas salvation is only possible if we take anchor of Nam or Shabad.

And this is confirmed by Sree Guru Amar Das Maharaj, in His Bani of Raag Maroo, ang 1055

ਏਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ

Eaek Naam Jug Chaar Oudhhaarae,

Sabadhae Naam Visaahaa Hae

एक नामि जुग चारि उधारे सबदे नाम विसाहा हे

The Naam, the Name of the One Lord, saves and redeems throughout the four ages.

Through the Shabad, one trades in the Naam.

So we are not to be worried in which yuga we are or not, but our only worry should be about ourselves, if we are still in"manmat", or we are attached to Nam through Gurmat.

Different sages, scientists, gods, goddesses, etc have divided the time in eras or Yugas, with its different ingredients.

But the Saints, the Bhagats,our Guru Sahibans, and especially Dhan Dhan Satguru Arjun Dev Maharaj, tell us, that even a moment away from our Beloved Wahiguru, is as good as Kaliyuga. Means, full of durmat, ignorance, darkness.

When He is in our mind and heart, we can not do anything wrong.

The moment we forget Him even for a single moment, that moment becomes dangerous for us, as we are propense to do sinful acts, mind and vices surround us tightly, and we are toy in their hands, and for this very reason we are bound to die again and again, time after time...

Most os us are not that pure enough to see Him or have His Darshan; but for sure, we can start getting purified right from just now, through Gurmat, which is as good as Nam Simran.

Science prooves that Mahabharat took place recently, im not sure i think about in the 12th century or something. Therefore dawapur yug was pretty recent. Even today relics of Dwaraka Nagree and Hastinapur the home of the Pandavs etc is there to see. So these yugs must be recent

But then the Lord, Har, Har, shows His Mercy, and reveals us that one eradicates the poison of the 5 vices from within, by the Guru's Teachings and the Lord's Name.

*Here again He is telling us, that in this Dwapur Yuga, only 50% of goodnes or virtue remained, in comaprison with Satyuga, so we can see that, as the creation advances from Satyuga to Kal Yuga, the virtue is lessened more and more ..
