'Today we were supposed to have a solemn remembrance for the martyrs of 1984, so what has happened is very sad,' Prem Singh Chandumajra, a spokesman for Punjab state's ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), told reporters.

'The Temple has once again been dishonoured today,' he added.

Inside the walls: The violence soon grew out of control, spilling inside the temple's walls

Peace has since been restored, said an official, who declined to be named because he is not authorized to speak to the media.

'The violent clashes will be investigated and action will be taken against those who are accused,' said Giani Gurbachan Singh, a leader of the SGPC, the elected body that manages Sikh temples.

Operation Blue Star was one of the most contentious episodes in India's battle against Sikh separatists in the 1980s.

In terms of media, this incident is absolutely awful! The media have largely ignored the 30 year anniversary until this. It gives them an chance for propaganda, regurgitating the same old crap about militancy prior to the June massacre.

Look at the comments left on the independent's news article about this.

Shooting ourselves in the foot.

Good one lads :angry2:

Sikh community is very open warm hearted community, at times very naive, receptive to have all kinds of goons because of martial tradition so abuse of it should not come as surprise. First of all we need to honestly acknowledge there is an problem then build around stragetic awareness campaign via (panthic voice- sant ranjit singh dhandrianwale etc), this should be done without any reservations by rising above from paristan poltics that in general raising swords for a political dispute first second or third resort isn't accepted first of all its not exploring options the way guru maharaj would have done and second way too much at stake to loose to do this (countless hours of hard work that sikh community is peaceful is ruined by few hot headed goons).. Once majority voice is heard loud and clear people would be aware of it otherwise trust me, this people will camouflage their own shortcoming hide behind bana and sikhi, hide behind some egostic self righteous cause and they will hijack the panth, make us look like outlaw tribe and will ruin sikh imagery (they may already have to certain extend). People with similar mindset tried to sabotage bhai gurbakash singh khalsa peaceful movement -off course he himself knew about this - handle the suitation very very well, they will try everything to make us look like fanatics and extermist unless majority wake up reject them un-equivocally and make it absolutely loud and clear this wont be accepted.

The clash at sri darbar sahib today happened because of badal dal sgpc masands wouldnt let smaller groups pay tribute to the sikh shaheeds of 1984. So inevitabley a fight would break out of such arrogence is displayed by anti-sikh SGPC freemasons. Sikhs will rise up Sikhs know how to take their rights and then Sikhs are called fanatics as extremists as violent.

When a terrorist oppressive and repressive Indian government regime since india alleged gained independence from Britannia in 1947 (but actually is not free) is backed by most corrupt capitalist world powers has killed and silence your people for the last 30years and you have no means for justice or readdress then anger will boil over. The Sikhs in the Sikh empire looked after every inhabitant under their rule, no one went hungry, no one went without shelter or clothing. Yet today in punjab and in india there is such poverty and rich-poor gap. This is the result of greedy capitalist and unethical uncaring policies of looking out for yourself and no one else.

The Sikh religion teaches care for all those around you especially the weak and oppressed... they would not go hungry or live in poverty under Sikh rule because Sikhs being compassionate people would give them all that they need because Sikhs would have the financial resources to spread the wealth and not horde it like terrorist greedy capitalist regimes in their off shore swiss bank accounts

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
