Aww don’t worry don’t feel upset! Mahraj kehnde a that dukh and sukh will always be there but what we need to do is change our perspective of how we see things!

I remember listening to a katha by a sant and they were saying it our choice how we want to see the world so if we put on red glasses and see the world negatively our life will feel bad but if we look through the clear glass and see that what’s happening is due to our past karm and gods will, we can see our life positively! Remember that maharaj sadda bad ni chonde, Waheguru ji will always do good for us!

That’s brilliant that you do Sukhmani sahib! :)

Keep it us because I remember a saakhi of once Guru Nanak Dev ji was stopping at a village and a Gursikh and shopkeeper togther were going to visit Guru Ji but on the way the shopkeeper saw a prostitute and decided to go to her instead!

After the Gursikh went to meet Guru ji and the shopkeeper visited the prostitute they met up on way. On the way home the shopkeeper found a golden coin and the gursikh got a thorn stuck in his foot.

The next day the gursikh asked Guru ji why this happened as he did good and good a thorn in his foot and the shopkeeper did bad and still found a golden coin.

Guru ji explained that originally the gursikh was going to have a life full of pain and suffering but because of his goodness, Guru ji cut it all down to one thorn whereas the shopkeeper was going to be incredibility rich and wealthy but due to his bad deed it was all cut down just to one coin!

Also try doing Dukh bhanjani sahib! Its such a beautiful collection of baani’s. Eh path understand karn nu v bohat easy a! usually makes me feel instantly better when I feel depressed! :D

be strong and Baki bhul chuk maaf ji :)

"Nothing worth having comes easy"

Things that are worth something to us have to be earned.

An education.

If you want to have a good career you must earn the grades, and that is accomplished by studying hard. Teachers are NOT going to give you "A"s in your classes, you have to EARN them.

Good health:

You have to eat healthy foods, exercise, etc., it may not be easy, but IF you want to be healthy, you'll work hard at it.

Relationships= Finding, nurturing, and keeping a relationship alive is very, very, very hard, but it sure is WORTH it!

Financial debt-free= Live thrifty, instead of buying everything you want, you buy what you need. This is hard because we always want to have the latest technology, and it is not cheap.

Its your karma. There are people out there dying, people who are abused and raped, people so much worse off than u. U have to accept that when people seem to have good karma, they deserve it.

Instead of wanting what others have, be happy with what u have and practice Truth. Dont just read Gurbani, Live it. Practice what it teaches in your every day life.

Stay away from the 5 thieves, do naam simran-mediate on Truth and stay grounded n it-stay In its True love. In His love- we can take anything- look how the Gurus accepted martyrdom-take your pain as the medicine- as Him giving u the opportunity to escape the cycle of attachment to pleasure and pain. We keep getting pleasure n pain until we detach from it- then they become the same- theyre just illusions of highs and lows. There only really Truth which is the balance- beyond worldly halpiness and pain- and it is the Real happiness.

God Bless you

Guest The Poor Stupid Guy

Its very easy for people who are doing good in life to say `Oh its karma``. Its a question of what came first the hen or the egg. The poor life came first or the crime was committed first.

How many people who are doing good life actually do good things. In fact of them do bad things. So by this theory people did good things in past life to do good things in this life.

Girl, There is no solution to someone `s problems. Just hang in there. If you are lucky things will become ok again else just wait for the next innings.

Its not a theory it's the Truth- yes of course karma can be accumalted from previous lives, read the sakhi about Guru Nanak and the gold coin.

I get slandered every single day by sh*tloads of people and things were so bad at home that I used to sleep in cars.

But we have to accept- to find peace in the chaos and realise that pleasure n pain are one. I deliberately moved into a house recently which is full of pain and darkness just so that It would be easier to detach, because in the darkest of hells, the detachment- the light that pierces through is the strongest n brightest. Do naam simran and see for yourself.

The Greatest thing about this age of hell on earth is that the bhagats are compelled to turn to Him in their dukhi because in sukh, people tend to forget him- hence worldly sukh is the diesease and dukh is the medicine.

God Bless You

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh!

kaursimran ji, I completly understand from where you are coming from as i too am a victim of life and its way of life. But one thing you must understand for you to find happiness and peace with the life you have is you need to stop getting attached to your life. This is the only way one can actually find a sense of clearness when it comes to looking at life, that fact you EXPECT something good to happens only show you attached to life which will only result in to you going up and down in life.
Also you state you do Sri Sukhmani Sahib path which is an absolute good thing but in order for you to reap the sukh to man is by becoming attached to guru and the way you become attached to the guru and what i mean is when reciting Sri Sukhmani Sahib or any path should be done with complete concentration on each words and keeping your mind from bothering you while you do path (which is soooooo difficult) but always attempt and never give up.
From reading my answer i hope i do not come out sounding as if am i some sort of wise, staunch, diciplined sikh if I do then i do apologise. I am no wise or intelligent man or anywhere close to being a diciplined sikh.

I am 20 year old male and too feels the pain you are going though, let me give a short intro complying to your problem.
Ok so am 20 year old and i have always been depressed about my life aswell, i have faced through domestic voilence problem (between mum and dad) i was never really happy with my life as i have always been fat (i've fat for 20 year), i have never had a good social life (i technically have no friends), i have damaged my body through my extensive eating and damaged my mind with the amount of dirt i have watched and listen to, i have been addicted to pornography for nearly 8-10 years, I have been a lowsy brother and son, i was never guided in life i more likey had to understand the world myself, my educational life was crap as i was never good in school as i would only do good enough to get by to the next year, before sikhi i never has a great social life (no bffs, no girlfriend and no friend) from high school i was always bullied everyday 5 days a week (i am not making this up) through bullying i have gain social anxiety and depression. And the only way i ever really much survived was by living inside my head as i was a heavy day dreamer, I also am a heavy procrastinator (i procrastinate while i procrastinate)
So by reading this you can understand that 20 years of my life had gone wasted, which ofcourse made me overly depressed and worried.
BUT

The ONLY way i over came this was by following and contemplating on GURBANI and NAAM SIMRAN, i know this sounds like the most common answer on a sikh forum but guess what it is the TRUTH the guru sahibans have spoken about how to eliminate our anixeity, depression and other illnesses and it is through contemplation of gurbani, living gurbani, and naam simran. I know it can be difficult to follow all of these (trust me i am having a hard time as we type) but you must attempt and try.
TRY to aleast do naam abiyas for a short period of time, attempt to wake up as early as possible and atleast recite Sri Japu Ji Sahib and Sri Sukhmani Sahib and when i mean recite i mean recite with love and concentration on each word you recite and remember you are not reciting words but you are speaking to the guru and another method is to go to the GURDWARA sit in front of Satguru Granth Sahib Ji and listen to the kirtan.
This is my response to your problem sister i hope it helps and if it does not or you need more information then please feel free to ask the sangat of sikh sangat i believe we will be glad to help you.

Also a few more things that i recommend is:

Part of the depression may stem from doing less physical activites (i.e. exercising) so try to workout at least everyday, nothing intense but some simple cardio or strenght what ever you really prefer.

Try to look at your life and see what need changing i.e eliminate bad sangat, priortise your life, develop sikhi in to your life, attend gurdwara or anything else.

rather than getting yourself down on what is happening to you start using this as lesson and learn any mistaked made.

and make sure you make an ardas infront of Satguru Sahib everyday.

I understand where you are coming from as I have experienced many of the things you have talked about in your post. I suffer from depression, anxiety and fear of failure; at times I have felt crippled by these negative emotions and have struggled to come through them. The good news is that things change and going through tough times can make you a stronger person.

Life takes many twists and turns, sometimes things go well and sometimes they don't.

What I see from your post is that you have a lot of expectations on how you want your life to be, which in my experience can be the cause of many of your problems and frustrations. Our own expectations can be difficult things to deal with; we can often place great expectations on something or someone and feel greatly disappointed when our expectations are not met. Things do not always turn out the way we want them to, however sometimes things turn out better than we expected - even if the initial result was "not good" in our eyes. What may be good in your eyes may not be what God wants for you, so try to let go of feelings of loss or failure if things don't always turn out the way you want and have faith that things will work out for the best in time.

Be patient, life does not always give us the rewards we feel we deserve immediately, we can only harvest the fruits of our labours once the time is right.

Learn to appreciate all of the good people and things you have going on in your life right now and cultivate an attitude of gratitude. This will help you through your darkest times.

Be of service to others and help people less fortunate than you. It will help to distract you from your own problems and perhaps put your issues into perspective.

Think about what you are doing in your life and your motivation. Have you set yourself goals and objectives? Are you applying yourself in the right way to meet these goals and objectives? Do you ask for help/guidance from others when you are struggling? Do you listen to suggestions from people who have gone through similar situations to yourself and are you willing to take appropriate action?

Keep your faith in God, help others, be brave and focus on your goals. Don't be afraid to change or tailor your plans if they are not working.

I hope that this helps and I wish you all the best.

P.s. You are young and have all of your life ahead of you. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you will go a long way if you improve the way you write; good spelling and grammar will help you to communicate your point much better than lazy text speak.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
