Punjab 1984 Movie Review – Facts Distorted, Movie Influenced By Govt. Propaganda

Today, I got a chance to watch Diljit Dosanjh’s movie “Punjab 1984”. During the promotion of this movie it was said that the film was based on facts which presents the trauma of 1984.

No doubt, the movie is made while relating to the story with the times of 1984. The movie starts with death of a character who gets killed by army while he was going to Darbar Sahib on martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Sahib Ji.

But in no way the movie appears to be based on true facts. While presenting the police torture/ atrocities on masses, the (Sikh) militant movement is also shown as a cruel movement; as it’s often presented by the state propaganda machinery.

Militants, who were shown as heading struggle for Khalistan kills Hindus while pulling them out of buses and plant bombs in buses to kill common people.

Presenting a meeting of (so-called) militants as “conference”, militants are shown as fighting with each other on minor things. One elderly militant says ‘talk to Delhi, there is no use of bullets’. Another says ‘the power of gun will bring out Khalistan’. The killing of Hindus is then linked with this (meeting). Some militants who thought that such killings were wrong go to assassinate that militant leader but the hero of the movie is shown as lacking capacity to fire the bullet at that leader.

But at the end the militant leader and his elderly adviser are shown as traitors who were ultimately killed by Diljit Dosanjh in the movie.

Actually, no issue is at the focus of the movie. This is an imaginary story that has been named as “Punjab 1984” just to sell it.

This movie defames the militant movement and shows Khalistani characters as a cruel entities. This film should not be confused of having relation to the 1984 trauma of the Sikhs or the Sikh freedom movement.

From film’s point of view Kirron Kher’s part is excellent. She has shown the height of motherly feelings in her role.

why dont these movies every show the role of Indian intelligence services (ie IB and RAW) that fomented the trouble in punjab for a political end goal which is state terrorism against the sikh minority of India.

Why dont they ever show the hindu extremists of various outfits (eg RSS, Nirankaris, Arya Samaj, Bajrang dal and shiv sena) provoking Sikhs by doing sacrilegious events to stir up communal hatred which added fuel to the fire in punjab?

Why dont they show the geo-political games being played at the time with USSR, Israel and UK supplying military weaponry and training and advisor's to the Indian army / govt while the American CIA via Pakistani ISI was supporting the Sikh armed rebellion in Indian punjab and the islamic mujahadeen in 90s Afghanistan to remove soviet Russian influence.

This shows that Sikh film and media industry in sikh homeland of Punjab is not free and films are only shown and passed if they portray the Sikh separatists in poor light and carry the theme of defaming Khalistan movement because if it didn't it would be against the interests of the Indian state.

What a shame, was hoping that this movie would be worth watching.

this could be a ploy in itself to get Sikhs not to watch the movie to avoid learning about other things.

innocent people were killed by Kharku's, on what scale I don't know, but if you think that just because of this the movie should not be seen, you will be waiting for a long time to see a movie, that's amde in india anyway, that will show you 100% of what you want to see.

"militants are shown as fighting with each other on minor things." ahahahha, Well I think that's 100% accurate considering we are talking about Punjabi people. We have beef over a smallest things.

Hear in Canada even the radio station have "club members" and each club hates the other one and try to directly ruin the other clubs shows/events.

Stop spreading indian government false propaganda. No innocent people were killed by Sikh militants, it was the indian govt agents who did that.

Judging from Diljit Dosanjhs dirty music songs I doubt his choice in movies will be any better. I will not be watching. Hopefully he'll learn the message.
