Haryana Announces Separate Sikh Panel For Its Gurdwaras

Recommended Posts

This is just a case of one group of self serving politicians(backed by Congress) fighting against another group of self serving politicians(Akalis). And the victim of this political game are the Sikh Qaum whose inheritance will be divided between rival groups of Chors.

I agree. this is what is boils down to. one thief against another, with the panth being used as wager.

You would think that people would learn, but damn, our people are so blind.

Haryana Assembly passes Haryana Committee (HSGPC) Bill amidst walkout by INDL and BJP

Chandigarh/ Haryana (July 11, 2014): The Haryana state assembly today passed bill for the formation of separate Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee for Haryana. The bill, titled “Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Bill 2014” was passed amidst walkout by opposition parties including INLD and BJP.

The walkout was staged by Chautalas’ party (INLD) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in protest of formation of HSGPC.

The bill for separate Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee was presented by Haryana Cabinet Minister Randeep Surjewala at around 16:20 IST.

After the bill was tabled the BJP legislator demanded more time to study the bill. But Haryna CM asked them to come clear on the issue.

During discussion, INLD leader Chaudhary Abhey Singh Chautala said that this is a direct intervention in the religious affairs of Sikh community which cannot be tolerated at any cost.

He alleged that Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s Government has no “love and affection” for the Sikhs and only their goal is to divide the members of Sikh community to garner their support in the coming Assembly elections.

After protest INLD and BJP leaders walked out and the Haryana assembly, mainly MLAs of the Congress party, passed the bill.

As per set procedure the proposed Bill passed by the Haryana Assembly will now be sent to Haryana Governor for his assent.

As per certain media reports the Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa and Haryana Sikh leaders Jagdish Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalvi were also present in the Vidhan Sabha gallery during proceedings.

On the other hand, SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar led a protest march of Sikhs in Panchkula at Gurdwara Nadha Sahib.

Meanwhile there are reports that the SGPC has formed a “sub-committee” for Haryana

Haryana Sikh leaders Jhinda, Nalvi “excommunicated” from Sikh panth in unconventional and highly contested way

By Parmjeet Singh

Amritsar, Punjab (July 16, 2014): According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Haryana Sikh leader, including Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (ad hoc) headers Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalvi have been “excommunicated” from the Sikh panth. A directive in this regard has reportedly been issued by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. The decision came in a very unconventional and unprecedented manner. Other person excommunicated by Giani Gurbachan Singh is Haryana Cabinet Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha.

Even after Saka 1978 Nirankari Chief Gurbachan was summoned at Akal Takht Sahib to explain his conduct. A committee was duly formed after he failed to appear before the Akal Takht and only then an edict was issued excommunicating him from the Sikh panth. But in case of Haryana Sikh leaders, they are not even granted opportunity to explain their conduct. Moreover it’s clear abuse of the process triggered by Punjab’s ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

Highly placed sources have revealed that the Hukamnama issued by Akal Takht Jathedar today was was drafted and finalized in Badal Dal’s core committee in meeting in Chandigarh on 15 July, 2014.

Today’s activity has once again brought the issue of subjugation of Akal Takht Jathedar to the Badal Dal under focus.

How can someone be excommunicated without being summoned first?

Clearly show that The jathedaar was pressured by Badals into taking this decision.

Also, the action of Haryana Sikhs to empower themselves after SGPC has failed them is NOT wrong to start with anyway.

I also have a feeling the BJP backed out of supporting the AKALIS on this issue, hence this is the reason they resorted to pressuring the jathedaar to excommunicate the Haryanvi Sikhs.

Yet again the Akal Takht is pulled into disrepute by those with a power-seeking rather than Panthic agenda. This article was in yesterday's online Tribune http://www.tribuneindia.com/2014/20140717/punjab.htm#8 :

Akal Takht move draws flak from various quarters

Amritsar, July 16
The Akal Takht move to ex-communicate Haryana Finance Minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha, HSGPC leaders Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Deedar Singh Nalvi for “conspiring to divide the SGPC” has drawn flak from various Sikh leaders and intellectuals.

Among the prominent faces who resented the move are SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, the granddaughter of SGPC founder Master Tara Singh. She raised the voice of dissent in a meeting of the SGPC members chaired by its president Avtar Singh Makkar here this morning. She contended that Akal Takht should not be dragged into the issue, which should be resolved politically and legally.

Talking to The Tribune, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur said it was wrong to take the issue to Akal Takht. She also felt that proper procedure was not followed while ex-communicating these leaders. “The meeting of the SGPC members at 11 am was followed by a meeting of the SGPC executive whose resolution was quickly handed over to the Sikh high priests and by 4 pm Haryana Sikh leaders were ex-communicated. What was the hurry,” she wondered.

She also took exception to the fact that the meeting of the SGPC members was held without installing Guru Granth Sahib at the meeting hall. “Whenever a religious issue is discussed by the SGPC members, Guru Granth Sahib is installed at the meeting venue.” She said it would send a wrong message because if “we ourselves would not follow the ‘maryada’ what we will tell others”.

Kiranjot Kaur also posted on social networking site Facebook, “I am totally opposed to fragmentation of the SGPC but now that Haryana has initiated legal procedure for a Haryana Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, we need to rethink our strategy. Using Akal Takht to de-recognise it is a bad option. I do not agree with the resolution passed in today’s meeting at Teja Singh Samundari Hall that Akal Takht be asked to ex-communicate Sikhs from Haryana who facilitated this separate committee. Many members supported me after the meeting. If Akal Takht is seen to be acting in a partial manner, there is likelihood of revolt! Let us not diminish the authority of Akal Takht, where all Sikhs bow, by using it to crush political dissent.

Noted Sikh scholar Ashok Singh Bagrian said, “The Akal Takht edict is not in the overall interest of the Sikh Panth. It will widen the chasm between the two groups and strengthen the divide between them. It is unfortunate.”

Former Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) SP Singh said “it is purely a political issue, which has been turned into a religious one while terming the decision to ex-communicate these leaders as the one taken in haste. With this move, the prestige of the Akal Takht has taken a hit.”

Former DSGMC chief Harvinder Singh Sarna termed it “a black day” in the Sikh history while demanding that the decision be immediately withdrawn. “I would like to know as to which religious disobedience these Haryana leaders have resorted to that they have been ex-communicated.” He said the ruling SAD is “frustrated” as the Centre has not come to its rescue over the Haryana gurdwara panel issue. Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa also dubbed the Akal Takht edict as “unprincipled and unacceptable”.

Dal Khalsa Chief HS Dhami and spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh felt the three Sikh leaders have been ex-communicated arbitrarily and with no fault of them. “Asking for their right to manage gurdwaras independent of Badals was no way a sin. The Badals are unable to digest their moral defeat and in the desperation they are all set to destroy the supremacy and sanctity of august seat of the Akal Takht Jathedar and the credibility of the SGPC,” they said.

The duo alleged that the edict released from the Akal Takht was drafted and finalised by the ruling SAD’s core committee in Chandigarh yesterday. They charged that the resolution passed in the SGPC executive meet was also “prepared on the instructions of Badal and the executive members were compelled to sign on dotted lines”. They blamed CM Badal and his Deputy CM son Sukhbir for “blatantly misusing the seat and seal of the Akal Takht to fix their adversaries”.

When an organisation becomes corrupt it's better for the community to dismantle it and start fresh.

Look at this pragmatically:

who will benefit from the dismantling of the SGPC, in the short term and long term?

are you going to be able to dismantle the SGPC?

if you were, what would tke it's place?

how would it be better than the SGPC?

or would it be easier, or better to "re-claim" the SGPC and restore it back to it's glorious past?

This is seriously UNPRECEDENTED.

How can someone be excommunicated without being summoned first?

makar said they had been summoned but failed to appear. They said they were unable to appear at short notice.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
