Sikh names usually have a meaning according to gurmat....

for example someone's name maybe Gurmukh which means a person who keeps their muk(face) towards the Guru (Gur). you could also link this name to Guru Gobind Singh ji who said "Khalsa mero roop hai khas" so if your living a gursikhi jeevan then you have the Gurus (Gur) face(Mukh) :waheguru:

anyway easy clue is that a typical Sikh name will either end in deep, preet ,jeet, vir, inder or pal! and probably start with, Gur, Har, Man, Jas, sukh....

There isnt a rule. Some names are hindu names and some are sikh. Simple as. Its like u have some that are muslim names, some jewish and some christian. The name has some sort of relation to the religion.

These days, alot of people are going for short mixed names eg. Priya, riya, maya, aron, jay...etc. but what is the meaning of these names? A name is a persons identity. Its a massive thing. Unfortunately we just want something thats short so goray can say it with ease (how lame) and it should sound nice (who cares what it means).

The kids gunna grow up and ask his/her parents what his/her name means...thats gunna be awkward huh? Well kaka, it means jack all.

If you have any names in mind, do share :)

Make sure you name them after warriors of Sikh history, not world history.

Well wat wud b the point in just naming them after sikh warrior names, wen really thats my whole point of being bit different with kids names?

Thing is, sikhs have alot of names which dont even have anyfink 2 do with sikh dharam. Names like alamghir, iqbal, tanvir, ram, even hanuman r names that come frm other faiths, yet they r acceptable, so y not names of famous non-sikh warriors?

Names such as sikander (alexander), kamal (kamal mustafa attaturk), jujhar (sahibzada) r the 3 names that i was thinkin of. Even hari (nalwa). Obviously every name has to be taken into special consideration, i mean if an apna names their kid joshua/muhammed/moses/joseph/hailie/mazda etc then that wud be takin it too far.

Wat do u say?
