Is Training With Weapons Beadbi?

Sat Sangat Ji, I had a question regarding using Shastar for training.

I train with Shastar regurlarly, and on one occasion one of my friends came over while I was training.

I happened to be training with my Sri Sahib/Kirpan that day and when my friend saw me he said that I shouldn't be taking my Kirpaan out of it's case like that because apparently it wants khoon(blood) when you take it out and taking it out for any other reason than bhog is beadbi.

I tried telling him that I was only using it to train and that I never start without an Ardas and asking Guru ji for permission but he said I should use a different one other than my kakaar. The probelm is, I need to use my specific Kirpaan because it is the one that is always with me, so if I had to ever take it out for any combat situation (Which I hope never happens) I want to be fully functional and efficeient with my specific Kirpaan.

So my question is: Is it beadbi to take out your kirpan for training, and also, does it really want blood when you take it out.

''It wants khoon'' I find at a tad disturbing. It's not ritualistic, but we live in reality. There is no indication of this khoon thing other than the Brahmic thought which if you'd studied Dhan Guru Nanak Nirankaar Ji eradicated and forbade.

The khoon part is true, Guru Hargobind always had to Kirpans, one Miri and the other Piri. In one battle, his Miri sword broke, and he decided to fight with his hands and not the sword of Piri. But, understand that shastars are not toys, and if you wish to train with a Kirpan: please train with another one than what your Kakkar is. Would you play with your Keshas,Kangha, Kachera, or Kara? I recommend you buy some of these,(not my shop) http://www.budk.com/mobile/custserv/custserv.jsp?pageName=category2883

It's complete nonsense whoever said don't train with shastar. You will never become proficient in correct usage and unilisation of shastar unless you train with the actual shastars you intend to use. Using substitutes is not the same.

Every shastar is different in terms of material, weight, balance, construction etc. You need to be inimately comfortable with the actual shastar you carry this will only come with training with that shastar.

As long as there is correct respect of shastar there is no issue with training with the shastar you carry.

go and ask any martial artist who trains with edged weapons and bladed weapons, there is no real substitute to training with the actual weapons you intend to use. Yes if your skill level is not proficient to use live blades then use training aids instead.

Find me a reference from a reputable puratan historical text that says that weapons should not be removed from their sheaths for training .. Im willing to bet no such references exist in suraj prakash, panth praksh, Dasam granth or sarbloh granth.

This fairy tale was probably made up by a new age "hippy Sikh"...

    • I saw the video on TikTok I think. It was at Wembley Stadium and I was unable to bookmark/favourite it because Tiktok decided to refresh. It was the "mainstream" Chaupai Sahib you will hear at a Singh Sabha gurdwaras, usually so-called Ramgarhia gurdwaras and also for the past 100 year or so in Harimandir Sahib under the current committee system.  In other words, the sikhs who give up or quit at Lord of the Almighty Sword, provides a shield for my protection. With Your Hands you have saved me. You bestow help on me at all places and rescue me from pain and the designs of my demons.401. Kharag kait mai sarann tihaaree. Aap haath dai leho ubaaree. Sarab thor mo hoho sahaaee. Dustt dokh té leho bachaaee. (25) O The Lord of Sword, I seek Your protection. With Your Hands you have guarded me. At All Times be my Support. Save me from wickedness and pain. (25).
    • Bro, can you post from what line to what line they did paath of?
    • A decade later and I can show you all what the problem is. Both Khalsa Primary School and students from Pioneer Secondary Academy were invited for Vaisakhi celebrations, and they done a Chaupai Sahib paat. The problem is, they performed the politics ridden anti-dasam Bhasauria mutilated cut version of Benti Chaupai which is disrespectful to traditional puraatan samrpadaiye and mahapurakh. If bani politics is going to be used on children to skip lines from Dasam Pita ji dhan dhan Guru Gobind Singh ji's Benti Chaupai Sahib, that certain groups think it is ok to do, then @serious guptwas right to raise concerns a decade ago! IN 2024, when sangat is much more knowledgable about dasam bani and katha, when we have so many resources - then if we are not allowing our children to learn bani shud and let them choose their groups to follow later, then this raises RED FLAGS IN 2024!!!! AKAAAAL!
