Jathedhar Nandgarh Being Oppossed By Badal

A few days after revealing that the RSS had put pressure on the Badal Dal to drop the Nanakshahi calendar , Jathedar Nanagarh has been threatened with removal and has had his security withdrawn. This brave Jathedar has confirmed in public the control of the Indian Govt/RSS over Sikh institutions and now they want his removal.

Sikh organisations and intellectuals have hit out against the Akali Dal over the issue of reverting to Bikrami Calendar. They said it would be a jolt to the community's fight for a separate identity. Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh also stood firm on his stand of supporting the original Nanakshahi Calendar.

Talking to The Tribune, Jathedar Nandgarh said, I reiterate my support for the original Nanakshahi Calendar as it symbolises the independent identity of the Sikh community. I will not hesitate from voicing my support for it even if a meeting of the Sikh high priests is called on the issue. He, however, declined comment over the issue of the state government withdrawing his security cover.

Sikh organisations and intellectuals have flayed the Akali Dal for the manner in which it wants to throw out Jathedar Nandgarh for his stand on the calendar row.

Former Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission Chairman KS Patti said, The original Nanakshahi Calendar should be implemented as it was created with a lot of brainstorming and expertise. When every community has its own calendar, why Sikhs should not have one?

Dal Khalsa chief HS Dhami said, Sikhs have been striving to get recognition to their separate identity since long and reverting to Bikrami Calendar will be a setback to their struggle.

He said the original Nanakshahi Calendar was the manifestation of distinct and separate identity of the Sikhs. He alleged the Nanaksar sect was pressuring the Akali leadership to revert to Bikrami Calendar. Sikhs will not sit back quietly if their own premier institutions take any unprincipled stance that dilutes their unique identity, he said.

Former SGPC secretary Manjeet Singh Calcutta said, Most of the Jathedars are mere stooges of the Akali Dal, but Jathedar Nandgarh is the one who, at times, voices his righteous opinion without any fear.

Meanwhile, sources in the Akal Takht secretariat clarified that no meeting of the Sikh clergy was scheduled to be held on December 20, as reported in a section of the med

If they want to solve this calendar issue then shut off these missionaries (dhami etc) and all sant Samaj. Calendar issue does not require knowledgeable religious person. Akal takht should hire few highly educated ppl on a contract basis and they can easily fix this issue. Avoid fakes like purewal or any biased group of certain Jathabandi.

The third agency's plan is working quite well. As long as we have a certain group of people putting confusion in the minds of Sikhs in regards to an agrezi calander, Sikh traditions and Dasam Bani, we will continue to fight among each other and not regroup to fight for the Panthic struggle.

Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji had no issue using the bikrami calendar to tell us when events took place. So why are the current Sikhs allergic to the bikrami calendar? These guys have a hinduphobia and nothing else. Trying to make a name for themselves. When one of the 5 jathedar's agrees with the missionary corrupt Sikhs then he is a hero otherwise he's a brahmin and under the pressure of badal.

It is only missionaries and kala afghanists who are promoting this calander and have fooled many bhole bhale Sikhs about this calander. How can they say using Bikrami is Hindu when even the Guru Sahibaan and Gursikhs and Shaheeds for the last 500 years have all been using this. Even Shaheeds of the 80s did not raise this issue and used this calander. Then how is it that missionaries who have never even given a single shaheedi for the Panth can say using a Christian calendar is more Sikhi than Bikrami.

Also to point out I think its not because his stance on the calender issue is that he got his security taken away it was because of him speaking out against RSS and lately stating that Khalistan is the only solution. To me this jathedar isn't afraid of speaking but his stance on calendar issue is confusing.

I think this Jathedar is good. However he is pushed in a corner when Panthic Jathabandis do not perform their duties. Not too long ago a report came of people drinking alcohol in a Diwan Hall at Takht DamDama Sahib. The Jathedar reported this to SGPC, who did nothing and even did not let the Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji take place in this Diwan Hall because of the Beadbi taking place. Who is responsible of taking care of the sanctity of the Gurdwaras? It is Panthic Jathabandis. However no Panthic Jathabanadis provided any kind of support. Sant ji heard someone had thrown tobacco in the Sarovar of Sri Harmandir Sahib and came back to Punjab as quick as possible from Mumbai. Our Takhts and Gurdwaras are overrun by corrupt people, but this does not give any excuse to not stop beadbi from taking place.

I don't know if the Jathedars stand is unclear on the Nanakshi Calendar or it can be news reporters misguiding the sangat on the Jathedars true stand on the Calendar. It will not be the first and last time news reporters are misleading Sikh Sangat on Panthic issues.
