Jathedhar Nandgarh Being Oppossed By Badal

I think this Jathedar is good. However he is pushed in a corner when Panthic Jathabandis do not perform their duties. Not too long ago a report came of people drinking alcohol in a Diwan Hall at Takht DamDama Sahib. The Jathedar reported this to SGPC, who did nothing and even did not let the Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji take place in this Diwan Hall because of the Beadbi taking place. Who is responsible of taking care of the sanctity of the Gurdwaras? It is Panthic Jathabandis. However no Panthic Jathabanadis provided any kind of support. Sant ji heard someone had thrown tobacco in the Sarovar of Sri Harmandir Sahib and came back to Punjab as quick as possible from Mumbai. Our Takhts and Gurdwaras are overrun by corrupt people, but this does not give any excuse to not stop beadbi from taking place.

I don't know if the Jathedars stand is unclear on the Nanakshi Calendar or it can be news reporters misguiding the sangat on the Jathedars true stand on the Calendar. It will not be the first and last time news reporters are misleading Sikh Sangat on Panthic issues.

The more concerning question is why does RSS want it Sikhs to follow the Bikrami Calendar? Doesn't that concern anyone? It seems Akal Takht Jathedar, Akali Dal, SGPC, and RSS have the same stance on this issue while Jathedar Nandgardh is calling them out for trying to change it. We shouldn't jump to an conclusion on Jathedar Nandgardh's stance being totally wrong as he has proven to speak against beadbi/RSS in spite of SPGC and Badal. More info on this would be clearer like you mentioned.

is there even a statement by rss saying they support Bikrami calendar? or is this just one of those things our people do in order to prove the other side is wrong by falsely attaching that issue with the name of rss.

Secondly, how can a calender become rss when Sikhs for the last 500 years have been using Bikrami calander. Were the Guru Sahibaan, Sikhs, Mahapursh, Shaheeds all rss?

We need to realize we are being played by RAW in all of this. Their assets who have infiltrated our ranks know Sikhs are very sensitive when it comes to Sikhi who can get very easily provoked and make us fight over frivolous issues so we do not focus on the Panthic agenda. What is the need for someone to create a calendar right after the fall of the Khalistan movement and before Sikhs can regroup and then have the entire Panth divided over this issue and fight over it? now these missionaries are trying to divide Sikhs like the Shia and Sunni divide. Who gains from this infighting? certainly not Sikhs.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Bara maha Bani has all the months of Bikrami calendar. Guru Gobind Singh Jee also used Bikrami calander dates in his Bani(which is also one of the reasons why it is being attacked). We should follow what our Gurus did, because what they did was always Sahee/correct.

Certainly our Gurus were infallible. If someone has evident proof of Guru Gobind Singh using the term Bikrami as in reference to Bikrami Calendar then that can set this whole issue straight.(Some mentioned use of it in Choupai Sahib). Singhs in the 70's and 80's never mentioned calendar change or did they? It came up later on where the agencies have infiltrated our Sikh institutions and putting out anti-Sikh agenda ever since then. I feel like Punjabi Sikh media are flip-flopping on who is on what stance with what side making us all confused and fighting over a tiny issue compared to bigger Panthic problems.

From my point of researching, RSS has the stance of Bikrami Calendar.

What the Sikh groups need to do is support the Sikh causes full stop.

Jathedhar Nandgarh is one of the few that have actively gone to support Sikhs who protest against the assaults on the Guru Granth Sahib and have supported Bhai Gurbaksh Singh. Many of the Dera leaders have done nothing to support Sikh causes apart from the Bikrami calendar. What has been missed by many is that the Jathedhar has revealed what many have said in the past that RSS have a strong influence on most Sikh groups and institutions. This what we should be worried about and doing something about. Anybody that opposes Brahmin ideas is being called a missionary by a few these days, following that logic most Sikhs would be missionaries then. You had the ridiculous situation where somebody started attacking the Sikh missionary Society in the UK without any idea who they were. We should be worried about Deras who promote caste behaviours, cult behaviours and introduce Brahmin ideas through the back door.

Shoot Me, but I will not Resign even if Parkash Badal himself arrives here’.: Jathedar Nandgarh BATHINDA, Punjab (December 20, 2014)—Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh has apparently stated that the state government has withdrawn his security cover as per the directions of BJP. He said that he belonged to an old Akali family and would never surrender before any pressure of the government.

It is worth mentioning that Jathedar Nandgarh has been taking a firm stand in favour of the original Nanakshahi Calender. He also opposes the activities of Hindu right wing forces RSS and BJP. A few days ago, he made a statement in support of ‘Khalistan’. The Badals are not happy over his approach. So they withdrew his security cover.

Talking about the withdrawal of security, Jathedar said some days ago that some low level Badal Dal leaders met him and demanded his resignation. He said their way of talking was very poor as if they were threatening him. He said he also spoke to them, ‘Shoot me, but I will not resign, even if Parkash Badal himself arrives here’.

He said he belonged to that family whose members have been imprisoned during the Akali movement and he would not surrender before any kind of pressure.

On being contacted in this regard, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar said news regarding the resignation of Jathedar Nandgarh is fake.

On the other hand, Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh is conducting a meeting with a delegation of Sant Samaj on December 22 for discussing objections raised by the latter against the original Nanakshahi Calender. However, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that architect of the original calendar Pal Singh Purewal should be included in a committee to be constituted to make amendments in the Calender.

I like this Jathedar. He is not afraid of speaking truth and is going against RSS/Hindutva activities that are increasing around him and he isn't scare of Badal. But hopefully at this meeting they decide on the calendar issue once for all.

Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh,

I think given hindu nationalists are in charge and they have been 'converting' Christians and Muslims by enticements or threat (much like their Mughal forbears) we should snap our focus onto staying niarey , At the time of the Gurus it was a choice of either going by Bikrami or Hijra calenders , they didn't choose the oppressors calender then ... why should we use the new oppressor's calender now when we have created one that serves us not RSS or Brahmin's plots to prove we are Hindu ...they suppressed our maa bholi , they imprisoned our panthic heroes, they murdered our youths and raped our maidens 'SHUDI KARAN' is a phrase that should be burnt in your conscience , they control our places of worship , steal from our golaks using their lackeys to sell off Guru ji's land and still you want to use their measures of time so they can mess up commeration of our shaheeds and Guru jis important landmarks , we have no land that is ours, we may live in the saddles, roaming but we should never lower Guru ji's bheta (your sees)in front of those opppressors wishes

Nanakshahi Calendar : A Historical Blunder

The so-called Sikh Calendar, presented to the Sikh world as Nanakshahi Calendar by learned fraternity of Chandigarh, known for creating controversies and backing the adversaries of Sikh Panth, Gurbaksh Singh Kala Afghana openly, backed Sardar Pal Singh Purewal, Government’s sponsored campaign to distort the Sikh history, and introduce a new Calendar in the sacred name of Guru Nanak.
Here it is pertinent to mention the following two facts:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandak Committee (SGPC) neither passed any resolution for replacing the existing Sikh Calendar nor entrusted the job to Pal Singh Purewal.
Pal Singh Purewal Singh’s Jantri 500 Years was published by Punjab School Education Board in 1994 during the tenure of Chief Minister Beant Singh, whereas the Board is supposed to publish the text books for the school students with the quota of paper supplied to it. This was the first and last book, meant for researchers, published by the board.
Here, I may add that when this very Jantri of Purewal was extensively quoted to question the wisdom of Mr Purewal, all the copies of this Jantri were exported to Canada. With this Jantri of Purewal, the Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh, in its meeting dated November 27, 1995, prepared the Sikh Calendar within two hours, and presented to the SGPC through Dr Kharak Singh, member Dharm Parchar Committee of the SGPC to replace the traditional Sikh Calendar with distorted dates and history of the Sikhs in this so-called Nanakshahi Calendar.

In the Calendar, Pal Singh Purewal and his associates have taken the shelter of mendacious assertions and perfidious lies and till date neither Purewal nor his associates, could either confront or controvert or weaken in any manner the following historical facts pointed out by me and other scholars exposing the misleading lies of Mr Purewal:
Before introduction of this distorted Calendar, a Sikh Calendar was/is used, and Nanakshahi Samvat was also used. This fact has been highlighted in 1993, long before the so-called Nanakshahi Calendar was introduced, in the Oxford Dictionary of World Religions (EdJohn Bowker): “The Sikhs’ religious Calendar is a modified form of the Bikrami Calendar.” (p 188). The first perfidy of Mr Purewal was exposed, who claimed that he is the architect of the Sikh Calendar.

Secondly, the tall claim of Mr Purewal that he is the maker of Nanakshahi Calendar, which is original, was also exposed asit nothing but a carbon copy of the National Calendar of India, introduced in March 1957 by Indian Government as a Civil Calendar, and is based on Saka Calendar, on which the Hindu Religious Calendar is also based. In the Nanakshahi Calendar and the National Calendar of India, five months are of 31 days and seven months are of 30 days. Whereas in Saka Hindu Calendar the month of Chet is of 31 days in during leap year and in Nanakshahi the month of Phagan is of 31 days. Mr Purewal has confirmed this fact in his book Jantri 500 Years, saying “The Saka year that starts in Common Era leap year will also be a leap year. The year will always begin on March 21 is a leap year. This way the months of the Saka Era will maintain constant relationship with those of CommonEra.” (p iv). In this way, Mr Purewal cleverly introduced the National Calendar of India, based on Saka Calendar (on which the Hindu Religion Calendar is based) as Nanakshahi Calendar. Interested readers may consult The Hindu Religious Year — by M.M. Underhill (1921).

Thirdly, Mr Purewal spread the canard that Bikrami Calendar is a Hindu calendar and was introduced by a Hindu King of India Vikramaditya Bikrami Calendar had no connection with any Hindu king Vikramaditya, nor Vikramaditya is the name. This is mere a title which was assumed by eight monarchs of India. The first monarch so named was Chandraguptya II (376-414 AD)and this emperor was in constant war with the western India. It is accepted fact that Bikrami Calendar was introduced by the Malwa people of North-west Punjab in 57 BC, i.e., 433 years (57+376) before the first Vikramaditya title was assumed by Chandraguptya of Ujjain (Ancient Malwa and Vikramaditya Tradition by Dr D.C. Sircar, 1969). Thus, Bikrami Calendar was introduced in 57 BC on the land of five rivers in Punjab by a valiant community known as Malwa people, who were inhabitants of the valley of river Ravi. A section of these people migrated to Jaipur, Tonk region of Rajasthan, under pressure of foreign invasions. It was known as Malwa Samvat, which is evident from the historical records. “The era handed down by the Malwa republic” (Ancient Indian History & Culture www.kanpuruniversity.org/syllabus/ma.pdfPolitical History of Ancient India 325 H.C. - 319 AD. Rise of Mauryas- D.R. Bhandarkar, 1921 (Nos 5, 6, 9). Malwa people carried forward this Calendar to Rajasthan. Originally it started with the month of Katak. Hence, this Calendar is of East Iranian origin and is in use only in North-Western India. The Sikh Gurus accepted this Calendar and modified it according to Sikh ethics to make a Sikh Calendar in true sense, while in Hindu traditions it is known by the name ‘Vikarmi Samvat’ as Hindus normally use ‘V’ in place of ‘B’. In Sikh religious and historical literature it is known as Bikrami Samvat in accordance with the dialect used in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Dasam Granth and related literature.

Not true. There were numerous calendars all over India not just Hijri and Bikrami. The Hindu calendar is the Saka calendar. On the other hand traditionally Sikhs for the last 500 years have been using the Bikrami calendar. Now Purewal's calander is being pushed on us which is based on the national calendar of India, the same one that the GOI uses.
