Are you against the Nanakshahi calender? I know its new, but it's still been sort of in all the Gurdwaras now.

well I looked at the claims of the creator about problems it is supposed to solve but instead it's introduction has created those problems ...I need to follow a calendar which doesn't change the actual positions of the gurpurabs and important itihassic dates but since its been in place there has been too much change of original dates and miscalculations , Bikrami was working better its very very old from 57 bc and it is easy for aam people to follow.

If Nanakshahi had done what it claimed and been calculated i may have had better confidence

is the Sikh confused because this birthday on December 22 1666 not on 5th so why we celb on 5th and not on 22

Historically Guru Gobind Singh Jee was born on December 22 1666 which is according to the Julian calendar. So if calculation are done, then according to the Gregorian calendar on which the purewal's calendar is based on then Guru Gobind Singh Jee's date of birth should be January 1st(same as New years). But Purewal has wrongly calculated this and made it January 5th. Sadly most of the Sikhs in the west will be celebrating according to Purewal's flawed calendar on January 5th. Col Nishan who is a scientist in the field of astronomy and calendar science had given a list of flawed dates in Purewal Calandar but sadly he was ignored in all of this.

January 5th is not according to Julian, Gregorian or Bikrami.

This is exactly why Panth should just stick to the Bikrami calendar. This is how our Guru Sahibaan, Gursikhs and Shaheeds for the last 500 years have celebrated holidays related to Sikhi

No idea why ppl of same faith calling each othet herectics. Since long all around the world there has been use of lunisolar calendrs( base on lunar movements , fine tuned with earth movement around sun ) we have chinese, tibetan, russian orthodox, burmese, jews calender folliwing these lines. Even within india there are bengali, tamil, gujrati and many other local calenders making adaptations ad per local needs. Does anybody know that sidereal calender known as most perfect which is based on Earth one revolution around its axis has to be corrected every 27000 years . Its only we people who waste time in proving each other herectic ( As a matter of fact both sides opposing each other have only superficial understanding of astronomy.) There is no reason why maladies cannot be sorted out if matter is handled by experts of the subject and shedding of stubborn stance by all involved

Why are you attacking other Sikhs who don't have much knowledge on Bikrami Calendar and Nanakshahi Calendar? Jonny101 answered your questions perfectly and you are nowhere to be found.

This Singh sums it up perfectly:

think veer ji you are getting a little confused those who are pushing the miscalculated calendar are also anti-Dasam Granth thus it's the second part that makes them heretics as they are gong against the faith's established and agreed thoughts on Dasam Granth. I mean they are trying to sat three out of the 5 Amrit Sanchar banis are NOT Guru Gobind SIngh's rachna but from different Hindu Puranas.

I just wanted to know, I'm not here for an argument because I know at the moment there is a big controversy over this issue, (same with Raag Mala, even though I personally view it as gurbani, it is still one of those controversial topics to talk about).

Calendar is now controversy issue? Certainly not. One needs to keep an open mind in order to understand the logic of both right and wrong calendar. If a person who just disagree with this issue - it does not make that issue a controversial subject.

I see very naive and unpar type reasons of people who supports purewal calendar.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
