S. Darshan Singh Pheruman, Bhai sahib Randhir Singh, Shaheed Bhagat singh, Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh they all went on hunger strikes. Even Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji refused to eat for days until emperor allows Sikhs to bring him food in the Gwalior Fort.. This is a historical fact and Guru Sahib used it as a tactic to meet with Sikhs.

Veereh, theres a difference between fast and hunger strike...behind a hunger strike there is a motive , most likely political ( but not always).....

fasting is a personal sadhana...

Fasting has a motive too, you can take a vrat and literally ask for anything you'd like from whichever devta it's dedicated to.

really

Ji haan! That is the point of a vrat :p Some people ask for shanti, while some people ask for maya/other motives to be done.

Only people do vrat not Sikhs.

Maybe other Sikhs do fast/vrat to Sri Vaheguru?? The people who fast have a motive, which they are asking Sri Vaheguru to complete the motive.

Lol. Sikhs don't do vrat. You need to keep a vrat to improve your understanding.

Hunger strike should be avoided. If you are in jail then there are no other options but to carry on strike to highlight importance of your voice.

Once you are out in this world then you have many other options to highlight the issues. Personally i think hunger strike is not according to our sikh principles. I have utmost respect to bapu surat singh and bhai gurbaksh singh.
