Heres the link, have a read:

This is crazy. Surely us brits can pressure the museum into either returning the saroop or providing all required facilities i.e. takht etc (highly doubtful)

What do you think?

Great post, at the very least a digital copy should be made and released to the Sangat.

The most important item on our site is a Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Saroop from 1714, freely available to all. Unfortunately, we have no history (and would appreciate any information)

Where is the strategy in preserving Sikh heritage? UK Sikh organizations need to do more.

Has anyone considered that this saroop might have survived only because it was taken by the British and kept in the library.

We all know how untrustworthy and corrupt panthic organisations on India are. They probably would have sold this saroop for financial gain or it would have "mysteriously gone missing" like a lot of other historical Sikh artefacts.

I wouldn't quite agree with the sentiment in the above picture in an ideal world, but on the other hand at least it's safe? Constant handling, incense, etc, surely isn't good for a saroop of that age? Would be nice if it were in Sikh hands, but rather that than somewhere it would go missing, or even worse, tampered with for political reasons. Not that the British are above such things, lol.

I went through the saroop.

Its always fills the heart with happiness to see a puratan hand written saroop. Having said that, this saroop cannot be from 1714, perhaps written very very much later . The reasons:

Because in the end some Gurbani(Salok Mehalla 3,Salok Mehalla 5, Salok Mehalla 9, Mundhavani) is missing. Even Salook Vara Te Va'deek Mehalla 1 is is partially written in the beginning.

=/

and there is also loads of Kachi Bani(Ramkali RatanMala, Jitt Dar Lakh Muhamamdan, Hakikat Rah Mukaam Raje Shiv Nabh Ki) followed by Ragmala in the end.

Khalsa Ji, Dhanvaad (Thank you).

We hope to make more available in the future.
