Uh how does controversy affect a film from releasing?

Unless the government has a problem with thus movie, I would say there is a 100% chance that this movie will release.

Someone has done the motions for Guru Maharaj..

If it is not clear that this is not true, How will this be released.

Ive written to all main cinemas that show desi flicks in Midlands to boycott, even dropped in mention that there could be violence from some quarters if shown.

Also written to sikh council to release a statement condemning it and to encourage uk cinemas not to show.

Get on it singho.. this film could set a bad precedent!

An animator did the "motions" for the Chaar Sahibzaadhe in the film of the same name, surely we hold them up in high enough esteem to make sure no one represents them on the big screen, whether animated or live action.

I tell you what, if, as a group of people we're not careful, with this kind of attitude us Sikh's are going to get thrown into the same pile as Muslims with all of the threats they continuously make every time someone even mentions something about Islam.

There are different ways and methods to get things done, "dropping hints of violence" isn't one of them, has anyone even thought about going through the right channels and contacting the producers or even the distributors of the film, start a petition on change.org if you haven't already, if you word it correctly then i'm sure everyone who share's the same concerns will sign it and then pass it over to the relevant parties, unfortunately we still have a caveman mentality when it come's to dealing with stuff like this.

And as for everything else, none of us, including those so called leader's of Sikhism who stand on their stage's thinking they know better than everyone else have ever been blessed with knowing what any of the Guru's looked like so we're really not in a place to say what's right or wrong, every Sikh has their own interpretation of what they think they looked like, I have my own interpretation based on historical books and the writing's of academics like Kushwant Singh

When this film was made were any religious scholars consulted to ensure accuracy?

When Hollywood makes these big budget Biblical films, Biblical scholars are consulted.

Bollywood loves copying Hollywood, why could they not copy them in this instance and take consultation from someone from Akal Takht to maintain accuracy and follow the correct criteria?

remember this is the same industry that has openly dragged sikh image through the mud either making us stupid clowns, traitorous terrorists or villains with no mercy . As far as Sikka has spoken it's his written dialogue (inspired by Guru ji through a dream ) and he went with his team to film on location , no real indications of vidhvan input anywhere in the hour long initial interview.

Whats wrong with that?

The gurus went out of their way to ensure their human images were not represented, no images of them surfaced until at least a hundred+ years after they had left their human forms.

Guru's truth is eternal, for those that say times have changed so lets move with them - how dare u challenge a lesson left to us by the guru.

And yes hanging false pictures of the gurus human form is also pointless - 2 wrongs dont make a right!

At first the makers of the did not release the trailer of the movie. They just put out a few images, that's it because they probably knew the reaction of the Sikhs would not be positive. They are using the name of the Akal Takht in order to get recognition. The worrying this is, making movies on the Gurus like this can be a slippery slope. this might set a wrong precedent and in future we might go the way of the Hindus who make low budget dramas/serials of their Gods. At most what the makers of such movies should do is just make movies on Nikatee Sikhs of Guru Sahibaan and tell of the Gurus through their stories without actually showing the Gurus.

Sikhi is not totally against pictures as Guru sahib is also sargun form (visible) form, if sikhi was against sargun representation of vahiguru/Guru we wouldn't have sri guru gobind singh ji calling shastars as their pir or start off ardas with Sri bhaugti Ji Sahai, Pritham Bhaugti simar kai - Shakti personified in Kirpan.

Historically speaking, there are some real painting of Guru sahib-sri guru tegh bahaduar ji(calcutta potrait) in which guru sahib gave permission for premi to draw their charitar.

The problem here is not with the charitar-visible sargun form picture drawing of Guru sahib but artist lack of understanding of Satguru true nature in totality. Whenever we try to present Satguru in visible form we must present Satguru in its totality not just deprive or confine Satguru to only visible form.

We must have deep understanding of shabad satguru and shabad gyan saroop of Satguru-eternal form and we must present in the same picture/frame in writing form- deep nature of Satguru- shabad Guru and gyan saroop of Satguru- agam saroop- achal moorat anubhav parkash amitoj khaijaie || so gurmat sidhant(Sargun-Nirgun) sidhant in its totality is upheld as pristine as possible.

Its not often I disagree with you veerji, and for the most part I agree with your points above.

But... There is no credible proof that the painting in question was an actual portrait of dhan guru tegh bahadar.. Just another 'sakhi' that seems inconsistent with the fact the other 9 human forms of the guru not leaving a pictorial image of themselves ..quite deliberately it seems.
