I believe those thousands of Sikhs who witnessed 1699 Amrit Sanchar did take Amrit as well. And today too Amrit is prepared in front of those who are going to take Amrit.

Everyone that didn't take Amrit ran away, it's a personal transformation, (haven't actually done it, but wish for Guru Sahib to bless me). So the reason it's "secret" is because it's Sacred.
