SUDDEN UNEXPECTED DEATH AT NIGHT - HOW TO AVOID IT.

Warning to those who usually get up at midnight or early morning to urinate: You must take note of the "3 Half Minute Pauses".

Why is it important?

It will greatly reduce the risk of sudden unexpected death. We often hear stories that a person who looks very healthy, suddenly died at night. The reason is that when a person wakes up at night to go to the bathroom, it's often done hurriedly.

Standing up too soon from a lying position causes lack of sufficient blood flow to the brain. That is why the "3 Half Minute Pauses" is very important. ECG pattern can change because of sudden change in body position affecting blood circulation to the brain eventually causing heart failure.

You are advised to practice these:

1. When waking from sleep, lie in bed for the 1st half minute;

2. Sit in bed for the next half minute;

3. Lower your legs while sitting on the edge of the bed for the last half minute. After that series of half minute pauses, you won't likely suffer from insufficient blood circulation to your brain, reducing the possibility of sudden unexpected death

A perspective on how emotions affect health...

You are not a drop in the ocean, but an ocean in every drop...said Rumi.

What did he mean by that... every cell in our body is intelligent to think and act.

We have 60 trillion cells in our body, and our health depends a lot on the harmonic balance and cohesion of the cells with each other...

In the movie Eat, Pray Love, Julia Roberts visits a wise man in Bali, and he advises her not to try too hard to meditate.. in fact he suggests that medidation is nothing but smiling and the line that is a kicker, is " Smile with your liver "

If you believe that this is just a metaphor, lets look at the other end of the spectrum, to prove just how crucial this is..

Let us say you hold a negative emotion towards somebody, something or some event in your life... each time you think of that your whole body relives the emotional upheaval of that association..

Your mind doesn't have a mind of its own, and doesn't know if the event is happening in real time or it is being replayed..

So it produces the same stress hormores namely cortisol.. each and every cell of your body starts feeling the same emotion of let us say "hatred" towards that event, person or experience all over again...

The body isn't at ease.. this is a state where the condition of dis-ease sets in....

If you continue to live in that state, your cells are now getting conditioned to live in the same state...

Health of a person, depends on how well all the systems of the body and the 60 trillion cells play the melody of harmony together..

When the cells are living in a state of hatred.. they soon start exhibiting that with each other and killing healthy cells in the body...This leads to many forms of auto immune disease...

Like Rumi said.. you are a drop in the ocean, you are an ocean in every drop...

Be careful of your thoughts, your feelings and your emotions...

Forgive people, not because they deserve it, but because you need it...Stay happy, stay healthy.

Note: got the above  lovely piece of truth from a friend, which I liked, and felt like sharing with the sangat here.

Some nice quotes for us and people that change, even the ones that make the other look bad.

"Share your smile with the world. It's a symbol of friendship and peace."

Christie Brinkley

"Humility is the true key to success. Successful people lose their way at times. They often embrace and overindulge from the fruits of success. Humility halts this arrogance and self-indulging trap. Humble people share the credit and wealth, remaining focused and hungry to continue the journey of success."

Paranoid Personality

Many men and women  get jealous, but their jealousy actually stems from an overall paranoid approach to many things in life.

While paranoia at the most severe end of the spectrum takes the form of Schizophrenia-Paranoid Type, the vast majority of paranoid individuals fall toward the milder end of this spectrum.

Many men and women have some paranoid characteristics but their paranoia isn’t severe enough to meet the diagnosis of full-blown paranoid disorder.

Men and women with mild or moderate paranoia have great difficulty trusting others and often infer malicious intent to others’ motives.

They frequently have a personality type that leads them to feel victimized and persecuted, frequently feeling that others are out to get them.

They often feel that others are trying to sabotage them, their goals, or their career.

They also often perceive that others have put them down, rejected them, or patronized them, even when witnesses tell them otherwise.

Finally, men and women with a paranoid personality style are often blamers, assigning blame to others as opposed to looking inward and accepting accountability for their own flaws or mistakes.

Too often, they get jealous, and grasp onto a strong belief that they are the only right—and no amount of evidence can convince them otherwise.

Ways to save a life:

1. Choking - Just lift up your arms.
In New Jersey, US, a 5 years old boy, cleverly saved his grandmother's life, with a very simple method, by raising the arms!
His 56 years old grandma Dilihua was at home watching TV while eating fruits.
When she turned her head, a piece of fruit got stuck in her throat. She tried to press on her chest to dislodge it, but it doesn't help. When the boy asked: "Grandma, are you choking?", she could not answer.
"I think you are choking Grandma, raise your hands, raise your hands."
The Grandma did as he said, and really managed to spit out the fruit!
Her grandson was very calm, and said it was something he learned in school.

2. Body aches upon waking
Do you wake up in the morning and find yourself experiencing body aches? Does your neck feel sore and painful? What should you do if you experience these symptoms?
Just lift your feet up!
Pull your big toes outwards, and slowly massage and rotate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction!

3 Foot cramps
When you have a cramp in your left foot, raise your right arm as high as possible.
When you have a cramp in your right foot, raise your left arm. This will soothe immediately.

4. Feet numbness
If your left foot becomes numb, swing your your right hand out forcefully.
If your right foot is numb, then swing your left hand.

【Three rescue methods】

1. Half body paralysis (regardless due to brain hemorrhage or clogged blood vessels), half side face drooping. Immediately take a sewing needle and puncture the patient's earlobes at the lowest point, then squeeze out a drop of blood on each side. The sufferer will be immediately cured, and will not have any lasting symptoms.

2. Heart stop due to heart attack. Immediately take off the patient socks, and with a sewing needle puncture each one of the person's ten toes, squeezing a drop of blood out. The patient will then wake up.

3. When the patient has difficulty breathing, regardless whether due to asthma or acute laryngitis, etc., until they start to turn red, quickly puncture the tip of the nose with a needle and squeeze out two drops of black blood.

* The above three methods are not dangerous at all, and can be performed within 10 seconds.               Forwarded as received.

Top 10 Health Benefits of Chia Seeds

Chia seeds have been a staple in Mayan and Aztec diets for centuries. Today, they draw the interest of many people for their health benefits and uses in cooking. It turns out chia seeds are a rich source of nutrients and antioxidants.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Chia seeds are rich in polyunsaturated fats, especially omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds' lipid profile is composed of 60 percent omega-3s, making them one of the richest plant-based sources of these fatty acids -- specifically, of alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA. The omega-3s in chia seeds can help reduce inflammation, enhance cognitive performance and reduce high cholesterol.

Fiber

Fiber is associated with reducing inflammation, lowering cholesterol and regulating bowel function. Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber, with a whopping 10 grams in only 2 tablespoons. That is one-third of the daily recommended intake of fiber per day.

Antioxidants

Chia seeds are rich in antioxidants that help protect the body from free radicals, aging and cancer. The high antioxidant profile also helps them have a long shelf life. They last almost two years without refrigeration.

Minerals

Two tablespoons of chia seeds contain 18 percent of the DRI for calcium, 35 percent for phosphorus, 24 percent for magnesium and about 50 percent for manganese. These nutrients help you prevent hypertension and maintain a healthy weight, and are important for energy metabolism and a part of DNA synthesis.

Satiety

Satiety is the feeling of being full and satisfied, which helps lower food cravings between meals. The combination of protein, fiber and the gelling action of chia seeds when mixed with liquids all contribute to their satiating effects.

Gluten-Free

Chia seeds contain no gluten or grains. Therefore, all of the nutritional benefits of chia seeds can be obtained on a gluten-free diet.

Egg Replacer

The outer layer of chia seeds swells when mixed with liquids to form a gel. This can used in place of eggs to lower cholesterol and increase the nutrient content of foods and baked goods. To make the egg replacement, mix 1 tablespoon of chia seeds with 3 tablespoons of water and let sit for 15 minutes.

Can Be Digested Whole

Unlike flaxseeds, which are also high in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and minerals, chia seeds do not need to be ground in order to obtain their nutrient or egg- replacement benefits.

Dyslipidemia

A study published in the "British Journal of Nutrition" showed that chia seeds as a dietary fat source can lower triglycerides and cholesterol levels while increasing HDL or "good" cholesterol. The study also found that when substituting chia seeds for other fat sources, such as corn oil, the ALA was able to prevent high triglyceride levels and reduce central obesity.

Blood Sugar Regulation

Chia seeds can play an important role in regulating insulin levels. They can reduce insulin resistance and decrease abnormally high levels of insulin in

For example, one ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds contain about: (1)

  • 137 calories
  • 12.3 grams carbohydrates
  • 4.4 grams protein
  • 8.6 grams fat
  • 10.6 grams fiber
  • 0.6 milligram manganese (30 percent DV)
  • 265 milligrams phosphorus (27 percent DV)
  • 177 milligrams calcium (18 percent DV)
  • 1 milligram zinc (7 percent DV)
  • 0.1 milligram copper (3 percent DV)
  • 44.8 milligrams potassium (1 percent DV)

Chia seeds also contain essential fatty acids alpha-linolenic and linoleic acid; mucin; strontium’ vitamins A, B, E and D; and minerals, including sulphur, iron, iodine, magnesium, manganese, niacin and thiamine; and they’re a rich source of antioxidants.

The Fact of Melatonin

Please make it a point to sleep early...

That´s how God has made us sleep at night and work during the day.

There is a natural cancer vaccine, which God has placed in each and everyone of us, in the form of a gland in our head called the Pineal gland.

It is considered to be the biological clock of the human body and it is also connected to the sight nerve. It is small like the size of a pea.

Everyday after sundown this gland starts producing a substance called Melatonin which runs in the bloodstream and protects the body from cancer.

This gland works only in the dark so if the eye is exposed to light the gland does not work because it thinks night has not come yet.

So if you stay up at night in the light, you are depriving your body from this daily vaccine. Our parents and grandparents who used to sleep early in the night and wake up early in the morning did not suffer from cancer or any of the disease we hear about today.

God has placed this daily vaccine in our body to protect us so let's put it to use by sleeping early. The gland starts working from after dark until two hours before sunrise.

Melatonin hormone is secreted by the Pineal gland, and as it trickles into the blood-stream, reduces the electrical activity between the brain and heart, reduces the heart rate, brings down anxiety levels, rebuilds the damaged tissues.

About anger, and tips to manage it gradually

If our anger is a tool and it is in our control, then anger is good.

But if anger controls us then we are in trouble, and the cause is also gone.

There is nothing wrong in using anger as a weapon, but if it is cutting our own peace of mind, then we should use wisdom to safeguard ourselves.

Here is some perspective on how to skillfully free one´s mind from the clutches of anger, and experience a balanced state of mind.

1 Give room for imperfection

The main cause of anger is that we want perfection. We get angry over imperfections, but the world does have levels of perfection.

Let´s give a little space for imperfection. When we give some space for imperfection, then patience  increases in us.

At home we keep a garbage can, isn't it? You cannot say, 'I won’t keep a garbage can at home'. Then there would be garbage all over the place. Anger is that garbage all over the house. When you give space for imperfection, you will put all the garbage in a can and let it be. Then you will see how you can manage your anger.
So exercise patience towards imperfections. It takes time for imperfection to become perfection. How can you give that time? When you give space for it. Then compassion arises and anger disappears.

2 Balance between expressing and suppressing our anger

We can’t express anger all the time, we will cause so much damage to ourself and others around us.

And we can’t suppress it all the time either, sometimes we need to express it otherwise we may explode.

So, we have have to strike that right balance between expressing and suppressing our anger.

Wisdom is knowing when to express it and when to suppress it.

3 Don’t get angry with yourself for getting angry

It will take quite some time for a person to get to that level where anger does not even touch us. It will keep coming in different shades and intensities.

When anger comes up, don’t start blaming yourself. One thing that can be very detrimental is you blaming yourself.

Keep moving ahead. If you get angry, never mind, just let it come and go. Instead of looking at the cause of anger, look at the effect it is producing in your body and keep relaxing your body.

4 Keep good company

We can never get cured of this disease called anger, if we keep the company of goons and bullies or let us say, consciousless minded people.

So, whatever we cannot do alone,  we can do it with the support of good company.

Company has many benefits and a few drawbacks too, as it can also take up a lot of our energy.

The positive effect is that good company gives us that much needed support to move forward.

Whenever our mind goes topsy-turvy, or if our emotions are going up and down, at such times the  good company will carry us forward. It will help us move through the situations.

5 Accept people as they are

One of the principles of conquering anger is: Accept people and situations as they are.

Accepting and creating room for others itself makes our personality much wider. If we don’t have that expanded consciousness, then we become very rigid in our outlook.

People who irritate you, in some way or the other can bring about the best in you. They can bring out the talents and skills in you.

See, when everyone around you is wonderful you don’t need any skill to handle a situation. It will only happen when there are people whom you think are unreasonable. So, take it as an exercise as much as possible.

The moment deep acceptance starts coming from within,  we will suddenly find the other person also changes.                    It is strange, but true. When we change, they also change.

6 Practice meditation

Meditation will definitely provide that much needed strength to overcome anger.

Practice it, and go deeper into meditation. You will feel the serenity and the change in you after meditation.

Meditation brings transformation.

Remember, any meditation that one may do, never goes waste.

HEALTH CAN´T WAIT

Jack Ma Billionaire founder of Ali Baba said : If you put bananas and money in front of monkeys, monkeys will choose bananas, because monkeys do not know that money can buy a lot of bananas.

In reality, if you put money and health in front of people, people tend to choose money because too many people do not know that health can bring more money and happiness!

Nothing is valuable but health is the most valuable!
Everything can wait but health can't wait!

    • Lol. You'd think you'd be more understanding.
    • sanskrit is only used for prayer as it is considered by brahmins as the language of the gods, in fact they would not teach to anyone who was not born  a brahmin . the fact that anyone of lower castes cannot hear sanskrit or read it means the brahmins had to speak in a 'lower' language for practicalities , for other castes they had to express themselves in 'manmade' languages for all their spiritual needs... Punjabi is so much richer and expressive because of this, a boli borne of the soil and the soul of Punjab
    • Theres always been an uneven ratio between girls and boys amongst British Indians due to sex selective abortion. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7123753.stm
    • Yh I wonder why brahmins gave up sanskrit and started speaking other regional languages.     I'm all for reviving old languages  as long as they don't force them onto people who don't want to learn it Punjabi has its roots in sanskrit.  Early punjabi was adopted by the nath yogis and they used it to write spiritual poetry,  soon after that the sufis adopted punjabi.    I wonder if the punjabi poems written by the early nath yogis still exist?  I know that there are some jain manuscripts written in early punjabi that are preserved.
    • The story of Ganika is mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib ji, Dasam Granth Sahib and in Bhai Gurdas jis vaarns. Ganika Paapan Swam Across the Worldly Ocean Pritpal Singh / January 14, 2014 ਗਨਕਾ ਪਾਪਨ ਹੋਇਕੈ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਲ ਹਾਰ ਪਰੋਤਾ॥
gankaa paa pan hoek ai paa paa(n) d aa gal haa r parot aa||
Gankaa was a sinful prostitute who wore the necklace of misdeeds around her neck.
(Vaaran Bhai Gurdaas Ji, page 10) Ganika ‘Paapan’ (female gender for sinner) was a prostitute who indulged in worldly pleasure. Her whole life was spent doing many unsavory deeds. She never recited God’s Name. She was a prostitute by profession but not necessarily because she needed the money to survive but did it out of pleasure and enjoyment. ਮਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਚਾਣਚਕ ਗਣਕਾ ਵਾੜੇ ਆਇ ਖਲੋਤਾ॥
Mahaa(n) pu rakh achaanachak gank aa vaa rrae aae kalo taa||
Once a great man was passing by who halted in her courtyard. One day as it was raining heavily, a ‘Saadhoo’ (pious person seeking God) happened by chance to come by her house. He did not know who lived there. Ganika answered and saw that a Saadhoo had come to her doorstep. She danced to the kitchen and all the way back to the Saadhoo with a glass of milk in hand . From previous lives she had accumulated good Karma the fruits of which she would now receive. She would be blessed with an opportunity for salvation. The Saadhoo asked Ganika, “O daughter, what do you do for a living?” Ganika became embarrassed and said, “Forgive me, my karma is low. I am unfortunate as I am a prostitute.” The Saadhoo refused to drink the milk. “I cannot drink milk given by someone who earns their livelihood through corrupt, immoral means.” Ganika was moved and saddened that the Saadhoo refused to drink the milk. She pleaded with the Saadhoo, “Please drink the glass of milk. I will feel bad if you won’t drink it. What must I do for you to agree to drink it?” ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਖ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਇ ਹਥਹੁੰ ਉਸਨੋਂ ਦਿਤੋਸੁ ਤੋਤਾ॥

Seeing her bad plight he became compassionate and offered her a special parrot. ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਕਰ ਖੇਲ ਗਿਆ ਦੇ ਵਣਜ ਸਉਤਾ॥
r aam naa m upd es kar, khe l giaa d e vanaj sou taa||
He told her to teach the parrot to repeat the name of Ram. Having made her understand this fruitful trade he then went away. The The Saadhoo said, “I will drink the milk, if you make one promise.” “Which is?” asked Ganika. The Saadhoo answered, “I will give you my parrot. I want you to promise to teach the parrot how to repeat ‘Raam’ (He who pervades everything) ” And with that, the Saadhoo departed from her house. ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਿਸ ਤੋਤਿਅਹੁੰ ਨਿਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਏ ਕਰੈ ਅਸੋਤਾ॥
      li v laa gee
thi s tho thiah u(n) ni th parrhaae ae karai asoth aa||
Each and every day, with full concentration, she would teach the parrot to say Ram. Ganika began teaching the parrot as per the Saadhoo’s instruction. The parrot was a slow learner. It required intense effort of repetition of ‘Ram’ for the parrot to learn. Day and night she persevered. ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਲੇਵਰ ਧੋਤਾ॥
pat it u dhaaran r aam naa m, durmat p aap kalevar dh otaa ||
The name of Lord is the liberator of the fallen ones. It washed away her evil wisdom and deeds. Repeating ‘Raam’ had a wonderful positive effect on Ganika. As she taught the parrot then also her spirits were uplifted . In time, the parrot learned to say Raam perfectly. By then it had also become an ingrained practice for her to repeat ‘Ram’ and she did so all day. ਅੰਤਕਾਲ ਜਮ ਜਾਲ ਤੋੜ ਨਰਕੈ ਵਿਚ ਨ ਖਾਧੁਸ ਗੋਤਾ॥
antkaa l jam jaa l torr, narak ai vi ch na kaadh us go taa||
At the time of death, it cut away the noose of Yama – the messenger of death she did not have to drown in the ocean of hell. ਗਈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਬਿਬਾਣ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਨਾਉ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਛੋਤ ਅਛੋਤਾ॥
ge-ee bai kunt b ibaa n charrh naao n aaraai n chhot achh otaa ||
Due to the elixir of name (of the Lord) she became totally devoid of sins and was lifted to the heavens. ਥਾਉਂ ਨਿਥਾਵੇਂ ਮਾਣ ਮਣੋਤਾ ॥
thhaa ou nithh aavae maan man othaa ||
The name (of the Lord) is the last refuge of the shelterless ones. Repeating “Raam Raam Raam Raam Raam….”,Ganika’s mind was purified and her past misdeeds were washed away. Her karmic account had cleared by the time of her death and thus she was freed from the cycle of reincarnation. ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਗਨਕਾ ਸੀ ਉਧਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੋ ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jih simrat gankaa see udhree taa ko jas ur dhaaro ||1|| rehaao ||
Meditating on Him in remembrance, Ganika the prostitute was saved; enshrine His Praises within your heart. ||1||Pause||
(Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, ang 632) Her dedicated repitition of ‘Ram’ became a deep meditation of God through which she attained her salvation despite her occupation and how she had spent her life. As she was cleansed then saved, enshrining His praises, so can anyone else be also blessed with salvation.
