Should We Support Lgbt Community?

Recommended Posts

Im confused about how i should feel with the current events surroinding the LGBT community as a sikh. I accept that you cant be gay and be sikh or you can but you have to remain celbate for life, there is no mention of beging gay in gurbani and it is deemed un natural and lustful and part of kaljug and kaam, but does this mean we should be against it? surely sikhi would be against discrimination and inequality, and me being someone who has experienced discrimination bc of being sikh and a minority like many of us probably have its hard to be against it as we feel emepthetic, but, does this mean therefore that we should support it ?

im really confused on the opinion i should have tbh lol, and p.s i'm not gay aha, it just something that people have asked me about and what the sikh opinion on it is and i cant really give a difinitive answer on it because i dont know enough, my opinion right now is leaning on the side that we should be nuetral and hence support it as everyone should be free to pursue their happiness and choose their life freely but at the same time understand that a sikh has responsibilities to live in the footsteps of our gurus. and if you are sikh you cannot do things that may be accepted by the rest of the world as 'okay' and normal, like smoking or drinking thats only my take on it tho, i look forward to reading others views and making a solid opinion fromt that and gurbani.

the lust needed with a man and a women is a requirment to reprodue, lust between a man and a man does not have a function a part from kaam, and hetrosexuality is not un natural lol what makes u say that?

Not anymore. You can reproduce without even having sex. Lust is the obsession with sex, what you're saying is one needs to rely on Kaam to reproduce. It's hardly un-natural in the sense that it is found even in many species of animals.

Hasn't this exact same topic appeared in several other guises quite recently?

As human beings yes, we should support them to assist them breaking their Kaam, but not to encourage them to continue. It may take time but it can be done through GurPrassad. It's alright if they don't want to get as some people don't want to for whatever reason.

Guest up in the mountains

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

Don't judge anyone

If people get oppressed we will stand up for them

We support everyone

Through the support of guru sahib

We don't have to label everything

We just have to see waheguru in it

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

It's sad to see so many people saying No,

As Sikhs it is our duty to help those that face injustice no matter what the caste, color, creed or sexual orientation.

We as Sikhs ourselves have been facing a lot of injustices because of ignorance. I think working with LGBT community will not only help them but us as a community as well to gain mainstream exposure.

I think if everyone examined the academic literature it is pretty obvious that homosexuality has always existed cohesively in Indian society prior to the British Raj, who then by enforcing Victorian principles on its subjects under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code in 1861, outlawed Homosexual intercourse. The irony of all this is that although Colonialism has long been gone, the colonial mindset of those that once ruled india remains. So now Indians as a whole are looked as backwards by the very same countries that ruled us for not accepting homosexuality when it was the Colonial system that removed it from our concious.

for those who want a serious understanding of this history I would recommend Professor Ruth Vanita's "Queering India: Same-Sex Love and Eroticism in Indian Culture and Society"

bro is that young fetty wap in your avatar?

As long as they don't try to impose their lifestyle on Sikhi by trying to demand a so called gay "anand karaj" they can do what they want. They shouldn't be persecuted. Sikhi is a spiritual and moralistic lifestyle. The lgbt community should not try to impose the homosexual agenda on religions that do not adhere to their lifestyle. It is manmat for a Sikh to support this type of lifestyle. A few years from now these same gay lifestyle supporting Sikhs will have no problem supporting incest couples and demanding they also be allowed an anadkaraj. Guru Sahib ehna nu Sumat Bakshan. I'm surprised at S4NGH and DTF that they support this manmat. Akal takht has given its ruling on this.

    • Best way is the report those replies.
    • Colin Powell was part of the group who claimed Iraq has WMD. He maybe got bought into the lies made by dick cheney but his character was good. He stood with principles rather than with Party. Traditional Republican who are not right wing and never in the orbit of trump crazy folks.  It is bit off and crazy to have a discussion on the vaccine efficiency based on Colin Powell's case. Mostly everybody knows that having a cancer as the underlying condition, he would have far less chance to recover. All anti-vaccine threads has been deleted and has no place on this forum. We respect your choice but take the anti-vaccine propaganda somewhere else but not here.
    • Bro. Since you're here doin your thing, can we nab the reaction trolls too?
    • India is going to keep chugging along with its large middle class and small upper class enjoying the fruits of cheap labour supplied by the massive lower class. Only thing that will disrupt this is war with china and pakistan or a catastrophic disease. We need to focus on Punjab’s economy, which directly influences 70% of the total Sikh population. Got to transition out of agriculture/ pind life and urbanize. Stop looking towards government jobs and concentrate on business and higher education with economic focus, not just useless degrees. Ludhiana and Jallundar are ideal for creating a mega city urban area as they are central and allow massive absorption of a good chunk of Punjab villages. Instead of wasting our water on rice cultivation, we need to use it for urban and industrial use. We need to stop looking towards others for our solutions. No matter the policies of the central government, we need to rise to the occasion and take our destiny into our own hands. Economic sovereignty.
    • Considering that if you are not case of an internet troll, below is my opinion - It is unspeakable and shows that you have lot to work to do to tame the demon "Mun" (soul/mind) of yours. If you have certain thoughts - too much of negativity then you may also discuss with your dr to need to see the psychologist.  As per gurbani, Win your mind and you will win the whole universe. Currently, you mind is your biggest enemy out there.
