For according to the Daily Mail (and the BBC) the last Sikh warrior on planet earth teaching Sikh martial arts lives in Wolverhampton.

I'd not heard of this article till you mentioned it, looked it up just now.

He claims that his training began in the Punjab in 1984. The sheer gall of this bloke. Whilst the self-proclaimed 'last Sikh warrior' was busy learning karate chops from his samosa sensei, the real Sikh warriors were fighting and dying for the survival of their nation.

Boxing is still very useful for striking, bringing awareness of range, and instilling discipline through fitness training and diet.

With gatka however you are wasting your time, I don't where these gatka ustaads claim to have learnt their art from , bit it's entirely useless to those wishing to learn the correct and effective usage of edged and bladed weapons.

Testament to this is the fact that gatka schools use weapons which are much lighter than the original purattan weapons were . why ? Because they don't know how to use the weapons, they prefer to jump around like circus clowns and swing weapons around aimlessly.

Singhs wore chainmail armour, complete with chest plates etc. Do you know how much these weighed ? Try jumping around and swinging a sword around wearing armour..

Has anyone here held a puratan khanda or tulwar ? I have, let me tell you they are not light, impossible to use in the fashion displayed by gatka ustaads.

These are just the tip of iceberg of the falsehood they try to pass of as a martial art.

What does gatka have for unarmed combat ? Nothing, is gatka aware of fighting in battle formations or against multiple opponents ? Does it understand the core element of Sikh warfare ? Jhatka , quick instantaneous blows to destroy enemy. Instead they do choreographed sword on shield strikes outside of effective combat range...

To the unknowledgeable Joe public this looks impressive, to people who know about combat arts and edged weapons its laughable. Ever wondered why gatka is not taken seriously by any established martial artists or swordsmanship schools...

If I could, I would start with Tae Kwon Do, Karate and then Jujitsu and Aikido. Or maybe go for gold and learn Bruce Lee's Jit Kun Do?

Look to FMA (Filipino Martial Arts), Panantukan (,Filipino dirty boxing) to learn hands free combat, grappling, joint breaks, small joint manipulation etc. Arnis, Kali, eskrima for working with sticks and edged weapons, daggers, machetes, etc.

Shastar Vidya aka Nidder's martial art is highly embellshed with south eastern arts like Kali Escrima. No such thing existed before Nidder created it. To make it look lagit he also created some bogus mythogical story. He was beaten by Gatka Ustad Teji. Then he acts like a sore loser about this episode like a school kid. His students who have trained with him since they were young and now have white beards have still not mastered this self created martial art since Nidder makes new things up as the years role by like his repeatedly changing of the name of this martial art over the years.

Since we're on the topic of martial arts lets discuss

I believe kick punch techniques like Karate and Tae Kwon Do are very good when fighting more then 1 person. However when you're alone with someone, Jujitsu, Judo and Aikido might be the better option. Once you put a person in a grapple vice like hold, it's game over.

Has anybody here watched that movie Olympus has fallen? The last fight seen was pretty good. The hero (whats his name?) loses to that Korean guy at first then towards the end he uses some kind of Jujitsu move and got him down to the ground and it was game over.

Martial arts has grown so much since Bruce Lee's time I'm wondering how he'd fare today if he were alive.

Has anybody watched Undisputed III? Scott Adkins was simply amazing in that movie.
