99% of the 'Sikhs' who have a wedding in Gurdwara have no clue about Sikhi, so if a person of non-sikh faith, wants to, why does it matter as they are atheists like those so called Sikhs. If anything that out of faith might actually adopt the Sikh religion. That's restricting.

I think the reason is that ignorant Sikhs for all their lack of knowledge by in large will still hold Maharaj Ji in the utmost esteem. A non-Sikh whether they are theist or atheist will not.

People who say they were driven away because of disallowing AK in gurdwarae were never into Sikhi anyway.

There will be plenty of Sikh - Sikh AKs to fill their place.

If hypothetically, there are less AKs in gurdwarae it may be a good thing as gurdwarae will have re-think what their function is.

They would have to think about serving the needs of the Sangat and Parchar rather think of being a money making enterprise.

The only people making noise about Sikhs standing up for the rehit are those hippies who never attend a Gurdwara anyway unless it is someone's wedding. While they are they way they are, but what is surprising is how many non-Sikhs(Hindus, Christians) are making noise about this whole issue. They are not even of the faith, what right do they have to raise an objection on this? And they even call Sikhs standing up for Sikhi as "Sikh Taliban". This is unbelievable! do they even know what Taliban is? should we now start calling them "Liberal Taliban" since they are fanatic liberals trying to force us to change our religion and traditions?

As for the video of the veers who confronted the Granthi. I used to feel the Granthis and Kirtanis should be ashamed. But if you look at their situation, they are left with no choice. They are employees of the Gurdwara. The real culprits are the committee members who run the Gurdwaras. If the Granthi and Kirtanis don't perform the wedding, they will be fired. Their livelihood depends on being a Granthi or Kirtani, they have mouths to feed. I've talked to these Granthis and Kirtanis, deep down they all disagree with these inter faith AK. But they say they have no choice. Either they do what the corrupt committee members tell them or they will be fired and replaced by someone who will do what they say. It is these corrupt committee members who need to be confronted on camera and named & shamed.

So Sikh Council UK ,Sikh Federation & other Sikh orgs that might be lurking on this website if you are listening. You guys need to get your heads together and enforce the Rehit Maryada more stringently.

I had a similar line of thinking about inter-faith anand karaj. I was all for it. I had a really long discussion with a more wise sikh and after we went over the Lavan I agreed I was wrong. The problem is these people don't look towards Gurbani for the answers, they look at the basic facts of our religion. They argue that equality means anyone can marry in a Gurudwara but in actuality Equality doesn't mean we should allow all manners of things to take place that we would disapprove. Think of Sikhism as a country, run by the Lord. We're given clear instructions (forget the Rehet Maryada which can change but look at the Lavanz which are unchangeable) their clearly referencing 2 people who accept Guru Sahib as their guide. A Non-Sikh wouldn't do that. A muslim can't accept that as it would be blasphemy and the same for Christians.

Our rules apply to Sikhs, That doesn't mean that we don't see muslims who marry within their own faith as husband and wife. That doesn't mean We consider 2 christians who are married as being "not married". We preserve the sanctity of marriage. For all Faiths, but that doesn't mean we'll let other people defile ours by not even bothering to read our Gurbani and basically lying to Guru Sahib during the Pirehe.

The thing is that Sikh Council UK or other Sikh organisation do not have any power to enforce on the Gurdwaras. They can only advise unless they themselves have members in the Gurdwara committees. What is needed is for the youth to get involved, in the last election the young members got a lot of votes even though they lost a number of their group who left the election due to underhand tactics by the other two groups. Only when the youth start to take over the Gurdwaras through youth committees, only then will the Akal Takht hukumnama be enforced.
