As per the India religious census data of 2011, released by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner on Tuesday, the total population of India back in 2011 was 1.21 billion people.

Currently in 2015 the population of India is estimated to be just under 1.3 billion people.

In 2011, the Hindu population was 966.3 million (79.8 per cent); Muslim 172.2 million (14.2 per cent); Christian 27.8 million (2.3 per cent); Sikh 20.8 million (1.7 per cent); Buddhist 8.4 million (0.7 per cent); Jain 4.5 million (0.4 per cent), Other religions & persuasions (ORP) 7.9 million (0.7 per cent), religion not stated 2.9 million (0.2 per cent).

The proportion of Muslim population to total population has increased by 6% by 2011 from 2001, the census data said.

The proportion of Hindu population to total population in 2011 has marginally declined by 1% between 2001 to 2011.

Falling most of all the Sikh population proportion declined by over 10% in the period between 2001 to 2011.

There was no significant change in the proportion of Christians in India between 2001 to 2011.

As per the 2001 census, India's total population was 1.029 billion of which the Hindu population comprised 827.5 million (80.45 per cent) and Muslims were 138 million (13.4 per cent). Christians in 2001 stood at 24 million (2.3%) of the total population and with Sikhs being 19.2 million (1.9%) back in 2001.

The growth rate of population in the decade 2001-2011 was 17.7 per cent.

The growth rate of population of the different religious communities between 2001-2011 was as:

Hindus: 16.8 per cent;

Muslim: 24.6 per cent;

Christian: 15.5 per cent;

Sikh: 8.4 per cent;

The distribution is total population by six major religious communities namely, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain besides 'Other Religions and Persuasions' and 'Religion not stated'.

Is it now about time that we focus on the basics of where our Panth stands in relation to social indices and the problems of female infanticide, drugs, biraderi apartheid, cancer, illiteracy, alcohol and poverty affecting us.

With the Sikh population projected to decline to below 50% of the Punjab as a result of state-sponsored Balmiki and Dera Ballan apartheid mandirs re-classifying current day Sikhs into tomorrow's Hindutva slave votebank is it not about time that we focus everything upon uplifting the Panth rather than focussing on the same tired old sloganeering that has not achieved anything meaningful against the apparatus of a terrorist state which is backed and supported by the USA, Russia, China, UK, France, Canada, Australia, Japan, Italy etc. Hindu's in 1984 numbered around 600million whilst Sikhs numbered around 15million back then. Hindu's in India now number over one billion people and Sikhs in India are just over 20 million as a result of the systematic exlusion of sehajdhari non-Punjabi Sikhs from the Sikh Panth's population figures following on from the 1950 Maryada definition of a Sikh that was welcomed deliriously by Nehru, Congress(Indira) and Hindutva forces. Because at a stroke exluding tens of millions of Ravidassia's, Kabirpanthi's, Satnami's, Sindhi's, Balmiki's, Banjara's, Hindu Punjabi's (who had all previously been accepted as Sikhs on account of attending Gurdwara's and respecting Gurbani) prevented, from our opponent's point of view, a Sikh population in excess of 100 million back in 1984 (that Indira Gandhi would never even have dared to provoke) let alone how many Sikhs there could have been today in 2015.

We can still get to the stage one day if instead of sending sincere Gursikhs to voluntarily rot out their lives in jail when our opponents get their goons to do Beadbi, we instead make sure to distribute 100 Gutke in non-Punjabi languages to disseminate the truth of Sikhi further and wider among the poor of India, Asia and Africa primarily.

It's about time we look for reasons to welcome and include people within the Sikh Panth rather than looking for every possible reason to exclude people from being included as fellow members of the Sikh Panth.

If our opponents succeed (due to our lack of action and urgency in tackling the issues that affect us by concentrating on the wrong priorities) in reducing the Sikh percentage of the Punjab population to below 50% by 2021, then it is almost inevitable that the following assault on the Sikh population will be to re-classify all sehajdhari Punjabi Sikhs as falsely being non-Sikhs. So that the opponents of Sikhi can permanently define Sikhs as a permanent demographic minority even within Punjab and as always they will use our own frontmen to inflict this damage on our Panth.

Brother I'm referring to:

Matrimonial level apartheid where Sikhs are copying Hindu's and Muslims that only marry into there own wretched castes and with there own cousins to ensure the so-called bloodline purity of their pathetic castes.

Hindu's and Muslims and Christians were always famous for segragating their Mandirs, Mosques and Churches on the basis of caste but now this disease seems to have infected Sikhs as well since 1984.

Hindu and Muslim villages were always segregated upon a caste apartheid basis. This was not the case to the same degree amongst Sikhs but has become a more marked and pronounced problem over time as some seek to copy the Hindu's and Muslims on everything.

Compare and contrast that to 1699 when all Sikhs were united in the desire to eradicate caste as Guru Sahib decreed.

If we don't eradicate biraderi as a personal identifier within our Panth immediately and unite our Gurughars as a direct consequence then it is possible that Sikhs will be a minority in Punjab by 2021 instead of 2031 as previously thought.

Sikhs have always married into their own castes. Even though it should not be a consideration when marrying, Sikhs still did it, so I am not sure this is the cause of the decline in population.

That's exactly the point Ranjeet Singh Ji. Sikhs are not meant to have any affiliation to caste whatsoever.

But the fact that some still do in 2015 and have even seen fit to segregate the community matrimonially and for worship purposes at separate Gurdwara's is a shocking indictment of us 316 years after 1699.

How can we prevent Hindutva divide and rule tactics being employed against us via Balmiki and Dera Ballan Mandirs to push us into a minority in Punjab by the 2021 east Punjab census when half of the bhekhi's out there won't marry their sons or daughters to those from similar backgrounds as Dhan Dhan Baba Ravidas Ji Maharaj or Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji to cite two examples. A community that practices matrimonial apartheid 316 years after 1699 is rotten to the core and should expect more discrimination and oppression from larger political entities going forward if it cannot reform itself.

Communities have always segregated themselves one way or another. What is stopping one person from one caste going to a Gurdwara that is commitee controlled by another caste. I think a lot of this use of caste is a load of whole huey that somehow this causing a decline.

A lot of people think that the rise of the Deras us due to caste discrimination. How does the average poor Sikh from a disadvantaged social standing get shut out of the Gurdwara? Does the Granthi decline Ardaas,does the Giani decline to do Akhand Path, does the Granthi prevent them from having a Siropa. If being lower caste is what attracts people to Deras then why do people from upper castes go to Deras also.

If Hindutva thinks that by pushing Sikhs into a minority is some great strategy, they are pretty foolish bunch. They lose their "sword arm of India".

Look at the statistics Ranjeet Singh Ji.

32% of the Punjab population are from a so-called scheduled caste background.

So in Pakistan those same castes were not allowed in to Mosques or to bury their dead in the same graveyards and hence mostly became Christians. But with Pakistani Punjabi's mostly being Muslim Jatts, Muslim Rajputs, Muslim Gujjars etc despite exclusion and discrimination against so-called lower castes the same population that became Christians only amount to 2million out of a Pakistani Punjabi population of 100million as Muslims have the highest percentage of so-called higher castes among religious communities.

Similarly with the Hindu's the so-called SC comprise 16.6% of their population so if they all leave Hindu ranks en masse it won't plunge the Hindu's into minority status within India. Agreed that Jatts like Dhillon of the Radha Swami's and Sidhu of Dera Jhoota Sauda are hoodwinking their overwhelmingly poorer flock but why should we as Sikhs allow conmen to demographically harm the Panth?

Conversely, in our case communities that were strongly associated with Sikhi right from the start (Ravidassia and Mazhabi) are being fed a narrative that they are better off leaving Sikhi and becoming de facto part of the Hindu fold as Balmiki and Dera Ballan apartheid mandir adherents. The net effect of which is that if 25% of the Punjab SC population (=8% of the total Punjab population) decides to swap the Truth of Sikhi for the lies of Hindutva apartheid philosophy over the next 6years then Sikhi becomes a minority in east Punjab by the time of the 2021 census.

Agreed about Hindutva thinkers not considering the sword arm aspect but make no mistake that due to our own stupidy of not eradicating biraderi differentiation they are outboxing us big time. The last 31years prove that beyond doubt. Sikhi is not the problem. It is us Sikhs who are the problem who are ignoring Gurmat's clear instructions to us that we must destroy all traces of biraderi differentiation and matrimonial apartheid within our Panth.

Ravidassi is not exactly part of Hindutva, they do not claim to be hindus either. They are not claiming to be non-Sikhs because they are being oppressed by upper caste Sikhs, they are actually quite emboldened and empowered because this particular group considers themselves to be better than Sikhs and feel they got what they needed out of Sikhi and want to strike out on their own.

Ironically, they have shown themselves to being even bigger casteists.

It is quite strange because in a funny way, they have shown the way for SCs and harijans in the rest of India how to bypass Brahminism without having to convert to Xtianity or Islam.

D = Ravidassia is only a term that can ever apply to Sikhs. But agreed that Dera Ballan make the superficial claim that they are not Hindu's to pretend otherwise.

They are not claiming to be non-Sikhs because they are being oppressed by upper caste Sikhs

D = That's the thing Ranjeet as we all know Sikhi opposes oppression of anybody and is the only faith that gives equality to all adherents.

they are actually quite emboldened and empowered because this particular group considers themselves to be better than Sikhs

D = Agreed in respect of Dera Ballan leaders. These apartheid-promoting racists spit at the hallowed memory of great Sikhs like Bhai Sangat Ji who led the Sikh Fauj at Guru Sahib's behest and great Gurmukhs like Giani Ditt Singh of (Lahore). They despise us as Sikhs and want the marriages of their children only to occur with other Hindu Chamars. Worst of all they go against all of Dhan Dhan Baba Ravidas Ji Maharaj's teachings - which we as Sikhs bow down to daily.

and feel they got what they needed out of Sikhi and want to strike out on their own.

D = It isn't so much that Ranjeet with their leaders. It's more about doing the bidding of their Hindutva masters and financially creaming off profits from their new adherents, whilst simultaneously going against all of Dhan Dhan Baba Ravidas Ji Maharaj's teachings and de facto aligning with Hinduism lock, stock and barrel.

Ironically, they have shown themselves to being even bigger casteists.

D = Exactly and not only that Ranjeet these racists have a particular hatred for true Sikhs of Ravidassia ancestry. They are an integral part of Manuwadi Hindutva.

One of the things it is said is that if you want to reduce the fertility and therefore reduce your population, you need to educate your women. Therefore by increasing female literacy rates you reduce fertility rates. All across the world fertility rates have come down.

Question is, posters here have mentioned that we need to have more children, tell me how are you going to convince the emancipated, empowered, educated Sikh female to have more children.

People then blame female infanticide on lack of education. But hang on, isn't the vast majority of the female abortions happening in the urban, educated areas?

I don't understand if your pro having kids or not, either way the Panth should grow with prachar.

Look, the reason why Sikh population is decreasing cause of immigration. Many Sikhs are moving to different countries, and I also believe with the female birth. Who cares about the female birth, we should be blessed with the birth of our young children may Whaeguru bless them. The case system is I know a problem. Our gurus are against the Caste, and believe that we are all equal. But the landlords support the Caste system. But I believe that we can marry outside the caste system.

You're absolutely correct Ranjeet Singh that there is a correlation between increasing literacy and declining fertility.

One would hope that Sikh females can have the intelligence to nevertheless gain education as they should but nevertheless attempt to maintain fertility at above replacement levels for the benefit of wider society and the Sikh Panth as a future consequence (as increased wages with better education would also allow them to).

Maybe adoption might be the answer to this problem.

Well said Singh. Sikhs should be at the forefront of adopting children rather than expensive IVF treatments

lol i wonder why Pakistani Punjabi (fellowbeing-Auzer-PP02) voted against united Gurdwara's?

Actually it makes perfect sense as to why Pakistani's would wish to see us as Sikhs remain divided.

Who cares about the female birth, we should be blessed with the birth of our young children may Whaeguru bless them.

Well said Canadian Singh Ji. Combatting female infanticide has to be prioritised with immediate effect.
