One of the things it is said is that if you want to reduce the fertility and therefore reduce your population, you need to educate your women. Therefore by increasing female literacy rates you reduce fertility rates. All across the world fertility rates have come down.

Question is, posters here have mentioned that we need to have more children, tell me how are you going to convince the emancipated, empowered, educated Sikh female to have more children.

People then blame female infanticide on lack of education. But hang on, isn't the vast majority of the female abortions happening in the urban, educated areas?

I don't understand if your pro having kids or not, either way the Panth should grow with prachar.

Look, the reason why Sikh population is decreasing cause of immigration. Many Sikhs are moving to different countries, and I also believe with the female birth. Who cares about the female birth, we should be blessed with the birth of our young children may Whaeguru bless them. The case system is I know a problem. Our gurus are against the Caste, and believe that we are all equal. But the landlords support the Caste system. But I believe that we can marry outside the caste system.

You're absolutely correct Ranjeet Singh that there is a correlation between increasing literacy and declining fertility.

One would hope that Sikh females can have the intelligence to nevertheless gain education as they should but nevertheless attempt to maintain fertility at above replacement levels for the benefit of wider society and the Sikh Panth as a future consequence (as increased wages with better education would also allow them to).

Maybe adoption might be the answer to this problem.

Well said Singh. Sikhs should be at the forefront of adopting children rather than expensive IVF treatments

lol i wonder why Pakistani Punjabi (fellowbeing-Auzer-PP02) voted against united Gurdwara's?

Actually it makes perfect sense as to why Pakistani's would wish to see us as Sikhs remain divided.

Who cares about the female birth, we should be blessed with the birth of our young children may Whaeguru bless them.

Well said Canadian Singh Ji. Combatting female infanticide has to be prioritised with immediate effect.

I am educated but I have four kids ... I think first things first get rid of daaj expectation amongst the middle and working classes then everyone will not mind daughters by promoting Dasmesh pita's words jo sikh daaj mangey jas leve oh mera sikh nahin. We are selling our sons like bhed bakri in the market's it is shameful.

the other thing is the push for careers means girls will have one or two kids max because husband's families don't want to lose the cash that is being earnt. So push for grands taking more responsibility to ensure their grandkids are brought up in sikhi, perhaps offering sikh daycare centres.

The biggest need is for universal parchaar for punjabis, and other Indians especially down south in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Kanada, Bihar ( we could start by doing bihari parchaar amongst those in punjab working the fields ) we need to work on the idea that SIkhi has no CASTE COLOUR RACE NATION it is for all.

There is also massive ecological problems that need to be addressed the killing/poisoning of the soil by synthetic fertilizer, pollution of water table by effluence, uranium from factories etc , the hygiene is lessening everywhere leading to greater disease spreads.

There is both a brain drain and a sikhi drain ...I know my cousins have settled abroad because that say it is easier to be gursikh there then in the pinds of Punjab

The daaj issue is probably the biggest problem. However, centuries worth of this habit is going to be very difficult to get rid off.

Even if daaj was outlawed, it would creep in one way or another. I think that there are anti-dowry laws in India, but there are problems with this as a lot of brides and their families are exploiting this law using it for extortion against the groom's family.

Ideally, parchar should be a localised grass - roots initiative, but I have the feeling future parchar is going to be a foreign endeavour coming from outside the Subcontinent into the subcontinent.

What do you mean by future prachar? Jugraj Singh, (A British Pracharak) has already went into India to do Prachar.
