Sat Sri Akal,

Sadh Sangat jee, I have a question that I wanted an answer to..

I am a Hindu from Punjab. So please pardon my ignorance.

I just wanted to know if Wearing a Kalgi is prohibted to all.

I know that in Hindu weddings the Kalgi is worn. But in Sikh weddings it is not. Because there is no one as great as Kalgidhar Dasmesh Pita Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Does this apply just to the weddings or in general aswell.

It's not explicitly in the Rehat; however, only royalty or those trying to show some royalty wear a Kalgi. When we go to Guru Sahib we must be humble and have Nirmatta. I assume Ranjit Singh would wear a kalgi; however, it is very likely he would take the Kalgi off by just the sight of Guru Sahib. Some Sikhs are also not interested in wearing a kalgi because it just doesn't seem practical when going around our Guru that we should be engaged in showing how high we are.

I suppose you can wear a kalgi outside the Gurdwara day-to-day if you want, although honestly you'll look like a bit of a bellend, especially when you're pairing it with jeans and tracksuits

I don't know why you'd want to wear one in the first place though. The Kalgi is a symbol of sovereignty and I'm guessing you're not a sovereign of anything.
