Wasn't Maharaja Ranjit Singh a true sikh then? Why are sikhs so proud of him then? I don't understand what you mean by 'made the official Nitnem official.' I thought Nitnem was the Banies which we did everyday without them being declared 'official' by the Panth. Doesn't the Sarbat Khalsa recognize the Akaal Takht as a Takht of the sikh Panth then? I am little bit confused now.

Ranjit Singh prevented future Sarbat Khalsas from happening. Previously some jathas believed there were 3 banis of the Punj Bania: Japji, Jaap, and Chaupai Sahibs. Today we have all 5. If you read on the Taksal website they say that the Akal Takht Maryada (was) wrong for that reason.
