They have their networks but I imagine from their perspective the ones you give a leg up for will compete against you in a few years.

Come on man, you can see similar attitudes by many Panjabi Sikhs who have no problem with ripping off vulnerable freshies or turning a blind eye to apnay sleeping under bridges and stuff.

He didnt actually say that though did he? He said we cant expect the now established afghan sikhs in london to help their kith and kin suffering in afghanistan, rather we must help the sikhs in afghanistan ourselves.

Jagsaw is 100% correct in his analysis. But there is no harm in other Sikhs helping their fellow brothers/sisters in times of need. If the karams of the rich Afghanis are not good and they have turned their backs on their own they will be judged accordingly.

Same with us panjabis. In panjab farmer suicides, drug addictions are on the rise. We dont help. Maybe only our rishtedar, but not any one else. If we wanted to we could build up panjab. But we're just glad to have escaped. And go on about how hard it is to get settled here.
