I just wanted to enquire whether there was any meanings or reasons for the designs (mosaics) we see around the parikarma of Darbar Sanib? I believe one is called the flower of life?

Or Any other historical Gurdwaray in India.

The SGPC, after they demolished all the beautiful historic bungaay (which we commemorate in our ardaas every day, in a sick twist of irony, praying that they stand for all time - "Chounkiya Chandae Bungaay jugo jug atal") scattered around the sarovar in order to widen the parikrama. Visitors to the city of Amritsar noted that these bungaay were among the very best representations of Sikh art and architecture, their edifices covered with murals and intricate engravings.

There is no meaning behind these tiles other than the willful destruction of our history for the sake of 'beautification' and greed (maintaining the artwork of the bungaay would have cost the SGPC a lot of cash). The Gurdwara management of Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib did the same thing, destroying the historic Bunga of the Ramgharia Misl, among other things, so that they could carpet bomb the place with marble.

This trend is repeating itself in countless historic Guru Ghars. Several of the mango trees at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, dating back to Guru Gobind Singh's time, were also chopped down to accommodate new marble tiling, and others strangled to death by all the stone.

These revolting men have no respect for Sikh Itihaas.

It's not directly the sgpc that is doing this but the karseva babas/Sants who are eroding away the historical monuments. Their heart is in the right place but the Baba jees who do the karsevas don't realize that historic buildings should be preserved. Sgpc should consult historians experts but that's too much to expect from such corrupt people like Makar.

The marble patterns etc tho, do you think some these designs could have been based on the marble work carried out by maharaja ranjit singh? Im guessing very little of the original exists...

the inset semiprecious stone work is the original Maharaja Ranjit SIngh works which he paid for , however even that is being removed slowly slowly and being sold off ...SGPC is 100% responsible because they are the ones providing the materials or lack of (remember white washing the purataan frescoes?) and the direction . My own feeling is the originial bricks /stones have absorbed the vibrations of how many centuries of gurbani ucharan they need to stay and be supported by repointing / fixing with like materials not removed with materials which are used to justify mortgaging Guru ji's land to the hilt .

That sort of dangerous stupidity suits a Sikh just as poorly as corruption does Singh Ji, whether their hearts were in it or not.

We can't be sure, but the oldest photographs of Sri Harmandir Sahib and its precincts suggest that the tiles of the parikrama were largely plain and unadorned.

This might be a tad bit controversial, but the '86 Sarbatt Khalsa started this Kar Seva Renovation wave. Another problem is this pendu mentality that because Sikhi does not profess to idolatry than all pictures are worthy of destruction.

Is the suspicion that people might worship these images really their reason for destroying them? That makes about as much sense as killing every last cow, chicken and pig to make sure that nobody eats meat.

No, this is just a theory that madra began spreading a few years ago. All the Karseva Babas are associated with sant samaj. As I mentioned, their intention is not bad. In their mind, they are just doing Gurdwara seva but out of ignorance they dont realise the damage to heritage that is occuring.

Even the Hazur Sahib management who are Sanatanists. They have destroyed a lot of heritage including the art work of hindu gods that they revere.

If some of our Babas had their own way this would be an eventuality.
