Why Nanaksar Ragiis Are Celibate

Recommended Posts

Celibates might not face family pressures and from this angle have it easier, but they can suffer pangs of kaam more readily and thus ruin their lives own lives and potentially of others. This is why a person should only follow this path if they have massive kirpa from previous lives and control these urges (eg Sant Baba Nand Singh/Bhai Rama Singh Ji). Kaam and Krodh dont forget are intertwined, so both of these will have a plunder fest for ones not solid in Bhagti from the beginning of their Sikhi journey.

Sant Sujan Singh were Grehasti & top most Raagi during Baba Nand Singh ji time.

Now when it came to succession there were two candidates Baba Isher Singh ji & Sant Sujan Singh.

As a test Sant Sujan Singh was asked if he will consider

MAYA as GA

&

RANN as MA

That is, taking money from Sangat was equivalent to eating cow (forbidden),

To treat wife as a mother (no sexual relation)

Being a Grehasti he could not !

I have been thinking that Punj Guru Piyaras were Celibate then why celibacy isn't considered a key characteristic while selecting Panch ?

what new history are we making here? panj piare went into service of Guru ji as many singhs did but also many were married ...by what certainty are you saying this ? also Guru ji has also stated in His judgement grehisti is jati

Just pointing the facts !

As Panth is not happy with present state of affairs why not appoint a Celibates for top job (Punj Piyaras).

We all know that no Grehasti volunteered when Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji asked for a head on 1699, Vaisakhi.

The motto which should have been highlighted was not -

"GURU HUKAM before self, family, sangat"

Ang 918 Line 5 Raag Raamkali: Guru Amar Das

Than Man Dhhan Sabh Soup Gur Ko Hukam Manniai Paaeeai ||

Surrender body, mind, wealth, and everything to the Guru; obey the Order of His Will, and you will find Him.

The next line defines what to do

Hukam mannihu gurū kerā gāvhu sacẖī baṇī.
Obey ye the Guru's order and sing ye the True Gurbani.

VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

"As Panth is not happy with present state of affairs why not appoint a Celibates for top job (Punj Piyaras)."

Call the Vatican and see how that worked out for them.

Guru Sahiban were themselved gristhi. Let's not go down this road.

Need to look no further than 1984. Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was Grahist, he had a wife and children while Santa Singh was a celibate. One is the pride of the Panth while the other is the shame.

So we definitely should be under no illusion that some how celibacy will make you a better Sikh leader.

A little closer to home: Terry Wogan was married and had children of his own........Jimmy Saville did not.

Throughout the world....across all races and creeds....the 'celibate' order has always attracted those with secret/latent homosexual / pervert tendancies who wish to hide under the cloak of 'being devoted to god' lest people find out how they cannot, in real life, maintain a normal healthy sexual relationship with an adult of the opposite sex.

Never ever trust a 'celibate' man but more importantly never leave a 'celibate' man alone with your kids.

Don't jump the gun !

First one has to surrender Tan, Man, Dhan.

Later sing Gurbani.

There's a couple of Singhs I know who wanted to forgo grisht jeevan and undertake seva back home (the genuine type of seva: feeding the poor, helping with construction projects of schools, hospitals, etc, not swanning around in luxury cars up and down English motorways, living the life of Riley whilst pretending to do seva). But in recent years they've been quite disturbed at how many high-profile scandals involving closeted Singhs have hit the headlines; Singhs who professed married life was not for them due to some "higher calling" but were in fact getting up to all sorts of shenanigans - some gay, some otherwise - under the pretence of being celibate.

That really did dissuade them from remaining single, lol, so they bit the bullet and did the needful. I can't say I blame them!

Sikhs shouldn't be concerned with what other Dharam or religious leaders are doing.

Rather contemplate on Gurbani

Ang 385 Line 12 Raag Asa: Guru Arjan Dev

Jin Thoon Jaathaa So Girasath Oudhaasee Paravaan ||
