Thats nonsense, panjabi muslims made up 85%+ of panjab, wen ranjit singh ruled and they welcomed him openly in the streets of lahore. Don't shoot the messenger, hehe. I'm just relaying to my brothers and sisters on this site what I'm seeing and hearing, and not just me, but the kind of conversations that are starting to be had in some circles.

Occasionally, we wrap ourselves up in this safe space on this site where we lose touch with the non-Sikh reality that the rest of the world is experiencing, and we end up believing things or versions of events about daily life that have very little semblance to whats truly occuring out in the world. I think that's a very dangerous way to live; possessing erroneous assumptions about a world that is clearly in a state of transition, and usually in the past we've always been a few steps behind and that's not ideal.

So, yes, we should be aware of the changing tides, and if that means coming to terms with various uncomfortable truths that previously we'd be loathe to admit, then so be it. The only people who'll suffer by sticking our heads in the sand is us.

Lots of times when I go out I get weird behaviour around me. I have to say, around East London a lot of whites seems subdued and fearful. You just have to go on the tube in a bad mood (i.e. not smiling) with a backpack and people start acting all jittery.

I know what some goray are like too. If the odds are in their favour, some of them would try and take the pi55 - that's something we all have to face. Not acting and looking like a pu55y has its pros and cons, in that it scares a fair few people but can also antagonise some.

Listen i duno y ur gettin all sarcastic. U sed in ur post "if anyone believes - in my hypothetical situation above - that no proud Hindus or Muslims would've resisted Sikh armies that were determined to carve out a country and kingdom for Sikhs".

You do know what hypothetical means? A 'what if' scenario? "Had we the numbers to really get down to business, this is what we should've done" Alternate timeline?

From a politics point of view, for a country to admit and apologise for any past wrong doings is a sign of weakness.

You concede on one point, what else would you concede on.

All that will happen is that the sharks will start gathering.

You can see the example of Germany. After everything that has been done during Nazi period, it has a lot of guilt which means it has lost a lot of backbone and this may have contributed in part in the problems it has today.

You can see it with Japan, they committed a lot of atrocities in their occupation period. They may not have technically apologised, but they may have conceded on other points.

But with North Korea and a resurgent China, they will have to regain their Samurai spirit.

In Canada the new Sikh MPs and Ministers are raising Sikh issues. In India the Sikh MPs never raise issues as they are scared of being labelled pro Sikh by the Indians. In Britain there are no Sikh MPs as Sikhs are fairly disorgained politically.

I agree with you, this is just spreading unnecessary attention to our community over an incident that hasn't affected any of us in any major way.... HOWEVER racism is still pretty rife in canadian society very recently after the Nagar Kirtan my local Gurudwara was spray painted with a nazi sign and go home....
