Thank you once again for answering my questions.  I was quite confused regarding some concepts but your answers have helped me to understand these concepts much better.  I still have many questions but feel embarrassed to ask them in case I am judged by others as the ignorant fool of the forum!!  Although, I must admit, I am not very clever when it comes to understanding Sikhism, Sikhi and the Gurbani!  I mean, I don't really understand much about what the Sri Guru Granth Sahib  ji says.  I do my paat without understanding much.

Would you mind if I asked you another question?  If not, then here is my question:  I know God is responsible for everything in his creation.  His name is the medicine for all our ills.  We are told to do naam jup to cleanse ourselves as this activity gets rid of bad, past or present karmic imprints from our mann (soul).  Call me an ignorant fool, but my question is, how does naam jup of his name work to cleanse our soul, remove all our ills, weaknesses or imprints of our bad karmas from our present or past lives?  This has caused a  great deal of confusion in my mind.  I have tried finding answers in various books and listened to many discourses without success.  I would like to ask another follow up question, (to do with stages ) but it will amount to more than one question, so, I will refrain.

Please don't think that I am questioning the power of God in any way by asking this question.  I know and firmly believe God is all-powerful and within everyone.

Please do not feel embarrased at all in asking questions, do not care about what others may think, or about their judgments, as each person has a different consciousness level, plus your questions are quite normal, so relax.

You see, as long there is sincereity in the questions(which I perceive in them), means, one has no double intentions, anybody is most  welcome.

Well, going to your question about how Naam japna, cleanses all dirt just as mentioned by you above : ills, weaknesses or imprints, karmas in general , etc

First of all, there are no impure souls, all souls are pure, it is the minds, which are bad and need the cleansing with the soap of Naam.

And in simple words I would say, dirt is like darkness, and Naam is the source of all Light. It has so much brlliance, that even billions upon billions of suns and moons joined  together, shall be like a candle light in comparison to the Sun´s light

In this sense, Naam Japna, is like opening the windows of our rooms to the sunshine, first a single ray of sun enters inside, and the darkness starts dispelling automatically, until the window is fully open, and the room is full of light.

In a similar way, our  Naam japna, is like walking towards the Source of all Light, Wahiguru Akal Purukh. The nearer we go towards that Light, the lesser and lesser become the layers of darkness upon our minds, until in due time, with His unlimited Grace, they are removed totally.

God bless you.

Penji don't feel embarrassed to ask anything, if we can't ask here, then where can we?

You will not be judged, as not everybody has the answers to everything themselves.

There are many here learning about Sikhi and also many that share their vast experience and knowledge with us.

So please go ahead and ask, as your questions may also help and answer somebody else's questions.

Its good that you are questioning things you don't know, otherwise how else will you know.

Thanks for asking

Pardesanbibi Jee,

having an encouraging sister like Simran Pen Jee here among us, as you can see from her words above, or in almost any post of her´s... everything good is possible.
